League Classic Akali is built around marking an enemy with Q, then triggering that mark with a basic attack. Start with safe farming before level six; after unlocking Shadow Dance, use its targeted dashes to enter fights without spending every charge at once. The build and rune page below follow a current Classic-specific guide, while the ability descriptions reflect Riot’s Patch 26.16 notes.
What makes League Classic Akali different?
League Classic uses Akali’s legacy kit: Twin Disciplines, Mark of the Assassin (Q), Twilight Shroud (W), Crescent Slash (E), and Shadow Dance (R). This guide is specific to that version; modern Akali advice may describe different abilities or interactions. Riot introduced the Classic kit in its Patch 26.16 notes and lists it on the Akali — League Classic Champions page.

The defining trade is Q followed by a basic attack. Q marks one target; attacking that target deals additional damage and refunds some energy. E is useful for area damage and waveclear, but it does not trigger Q’s mark in the current Classic implementation.

What is the recommended Akali build?
The current Classic-specific guide recommends this standard six-item sequence. Treat it as a guide recommendation, not a Riot-endorsed or statistically proven best build; the available sources provide no win-rate or matchup-rate figures.

| Order | Item | Why it is recommended |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Hextech Gunblade | The guide’s opening power spike, combining AP, AD, sustain, spell vamp, and an active slow. |
| 2 | Sorcerer’s Shoes | Part of the guide’s standard damage-focused sequence. |
| 3 | Lich Bane | Part of the standard sequence for continued damage. |
| 4 | Rabadon’s Deathcap | Recommended when Akali is snowballing or already dealing effective damage. |
| 5 | Void Staff | More useful as opponents build magic resistance. |
| 6 | Zhonya’s Hourglass | Provides the guide’s alternative emphasis on surviving dives and flanks. |
When to change the damage plan
- Choose survival over a damage slot: the guide suggests Zhonya’s instead of Deathcap when diving or flanking leaves Akali exposed.
- Respond to magic resistance: prioritize Void Staff as opponents buy more magic resistance. The guide also mentions Abyssal Scepter for some matchups.
- Use the Gunblade slow thoughtfully: it can help keep pressure on a target, but do not spend every Shadow Dance charge chasing if a later reposition or escape may matter.
Which runes and masteries should Akali use?
The guide’s standard legacy rune page is 9 Magic Penetration Marks, 9 Scaling Armor Seals, 9 Scaling Ability Power Glyphs, and 3 Ability Power Quintessences. It recommends 21 Offense / 9 Defense / 0 Utility masteries, investing mainly in AP, magic penetration, cooldown reduction, and damage, with the remaining points supporting early durability. Against a difficult magic-damage lane, it says armor can be exchanged for magic resistance.
League Classic has its own rune and mastery systems. Riot’s League Classic – Runes & Masteries support page describes four rune slot types—Marks, Seals, Glyphs, and Quintessences—with unlocks at different Classic levels. Runes are available through Classic missions, account levels, the Classic Pass, or the Classic Store; masteries modify specific aspects of gameplay.

Patch 26.16 also changed system values: Riot raised default placeholder rune power from 66% to 80% of the corresponding rune and scaling armor seals from 0.15 to 0.17 armor per level, and listed new energy-related rune options. These are system changes, not evidence that one Akali page is optimal.
What abilities and skill order should you use?
Know what each ability does
- Passive — Twin Disciplines: Riot’s Patch 26.16 notes describe separate effects tied to AP and bonus AD thresholds: on-hit bonus damage at 20 AP and spell vamp at 10 bonus AD.
- Q — Mark of the Assassin: throws a kama at one enemy and marks them. A basic attack against the marked target triggers added damage and refunds some energy.
- W — Twilight Shroud: creates smoke that grants invisibility and bonus resistances in its area, while slowing enemies inside. The guide warns that attacking or casting briefly reveals Akali and that Pink Wards and revealing abilities can expose her.
- E — Crescent Slash: damages enemies around Akali. The guide describes it as physical damage and useful for waveclear, but costly at 60 energy per cast. It does not proc Q’s mark in the current Classic version.
- R — Shadow Dance: a targeted dash with up to three stored charges. The guide says charges regenerate over time and can also be gained from champion kills or assists.
Skill order
The guide recommends Q first, E second, and W last, with an early point in W for safety; take R at levels 6, 11, and 16. Its reasoning is that Q gains damage and cooldown improvements with ranks, while E helps with area damage and waveclear.

How do you play Akali before and after level six?
Before level six: farm without forcing a fight
Akali is more vulnerable before Shadow Dance is available. Prioritize collecting minions while avoiding unnecessary poke. Use Q to last-hit minions that are difficult or risky to reach, and use Q followed by a basic attack for a short trade when an opponent comes into range. E can clear several low-health minions, but repeated casts use energy quickly. W can help protect or disengage, though vision and reveal effects remain a threat.
After level six: enter on a mark, then choose whether to commit
Mark the target with Q, use R to close the gap, and trigger the mark with a basic attack. Decide whether a further R charge is needed to finish the target or should be kept for pursuit or repositioning. The guide recommends looking for isolated carries or entering team fights after key crowd-control abilities have been used. Twilight Shroud is not protection from area-of-effect abilities.

Which Akali combos work in League Classic?
Basic level-six trade
Q → R → basic attack → E
Q applies the mark, R closes distance, and the basic attack triggers the mark and refunds energy. E adds area damage afterward. Do not substitute E for the basic attack: E does not activate Q’s mark in the current Classic version.

Waiting for Q to come back can let Akali trigger two marks in one engagement, but this depends on the opponent allowing the attacks and is not guaranteed. Use remaining R charges as needed rather than automatically spending all three. Gunblade’s slow can help if the target has Flash or another way to create distance.
Which champions and tools counter Akali?
The matchup calls below are qualitative recommendations from the Classic-specific guide, not statistical rankings; it supplies no win rates or sample sizes.
- Malzahar: the guide highlights suppression as a way to threaten Akali and support gank setup.
- Morgana: persistent lane pressure is cited as difficult for Akali.
- Tristana: her mobility can make sticking to the target harder.
- Fiora: the guide advises Akali to avoid close-range fights; Twilight Shroud does not protect her from Blade Waltz.
Vision is central to playing against Shroud. The guide specifically calls out Pink Wards and abilities that reveal Akali. As a practical response, opponents can also track her energy, cooldowns, and Shadow Dance charges, then look to punish a dive after she has spent her options for escape or repositioning.
