What “LAN MAC Address N/A” means—and what it does not prove
A MAC address identifies a network interface on a local network. Seeing “N/A” in BIOS suggests the firmware is not displaying an address for the onboard LAN interface, but that message alone does not establish why. A BIOS update and CMOS clear preceding the symptom do not prove that either caused it: firmware, the driver, the network controller, or board hardware could be involved.

- Record the board details. Note the complete motherboard model and revision, current BIOS version, and the MAC address printed on the board label or packaging, if available. Avoid sharing a full hardware identifier publicly unless support needs it.
- Check BIOS and operating-system detection. Confirm that onboard LAN is enabled in BIOS. In the operating system, check whether the network adapter appears. Note whether the Ethernet port has link lights; try a known-working cable or a different router or switch port if available. These observations can help separate a missing controller from a cable or network-link issue.
- Get the correct manufacturer downloads. Find the support page for the exact board model and revision, then select your operating system before checking BIOS and LAN driver options. For the B650M AORUS ELITE AX ICE, GIGABYTE lists Realtek LAN drivers for Windows 10 and Windows 11, and the manual identifies a Realtek 2.5GbE LAN interface. - Escalate if the address or controller is still missing. Contact GIGABYTE support or the seller and provide the recorded model, revision, BIOS version, and symptoms. Ask for a board-specific recovery procedure or warranty assessment. A Microsoft Community Support Specialist likewise advised using the BIOS and exact adapter driver from GIGABYTE, then contacting the manufacturer if the issue persists; this is community guidance, not a GIGABYTE recovery procedure.
Do not assume a generic MAC-writing fix is safe
No validated procedure or tool is established for writing the original MAC address back to this board. The Microsoft Community Support Specialist noted that methods vary by motherboard and network interface, and that some use proprietary tools. That does not verify a particular tool or method for this GIGABYTE model. Do not edit or reflash firmware, or run an unverified MAC-programming utility, based on generic advice. Ask the manufacturer for instructions specific to the board.

Need Ethernet while the onboard LAN is diagnosed?
A separate PCIe Ethernet card can provide a distinct network interface if you need wired connectivity while seeking support. It is a workaround: it does not repair the onboard controller or restore the motherboard’s original MAC address. Before choosing one, check that your PC has a suitable free PCIe slot, that the card supports your operating system, and that its speed meets your needs.
