Lahore’s published emissions-testing order first required cars and light transport vehicles (LTVs) manufactured from 2010 through 2015 to undergo EPA Punjab testing by 15 November 2025. It says other model years would be covered by later schedules, so that order alone does not establish whether every vehicle needs a test today. Check EPA Punjab’s latest schedule and an authorized operating test site before acting. A test fee is not a fine; if you receive a traffic challan, Punjab Traffic Police says to pay within 10 days to avoid its stated court-referral process for tickets involving seized documents.
Do I need an emissions test for my car in Lahore?
EPA Punjab’s order dated 27 October 2025 made testing mandatory for Lahore motor cars and LTVs, but its initial deadline applied specifically to vehicles manufactured from 2010 through 2015: 15 November 2025. The order says EPA would issue schedules for other model years “from time to time.” It does not, by itself, establish which later model-year groups have since been scheduled or whether every Lahore vehicle must currently carry a valid ETS sticker.

The order states that only vehicles declared compliant with the applicable Punjab Environmental Quality Standards (PEQS) for exhaust emissions and noise may be allowed on roads. EPA’s order describes the rule broadly, but its published first phase and later-schedule clause matter when determining whether a particular vehicle was due by a particular date. Which vehicles and model years are covered?
The confirmed first-phase cohort in the October 2025 order is cars and LTVs manufactured from 2010 through 2015. EPA was to announce schedules for other model years separately. A vehicle’s class and manufacture year therefore matter; do not infer its deadline from the first phase alone.

EPA’s 5 June 2025 exemption order said cars and LTVs not older than three years—described there as vehicles manufactured from 2022 onward—were exempt from the testing requirement in the referenced April 2025 order. That is a dated exemption, not proof of the rule currently in force: check for subsequent schedules or amendments before relying on it. See the EPA exemption order.
How much does the Lahore emissions test cost?
EPA Punjab’s notification dated 30 September 2025, effective 1 October 2025, lists the following ETS fees for cars and LTVs by engine displacement. Verify the current fee and payment instructions with EPA before testing, since these published rates date from 2025.

Where can I get an EPA emissions test?
Use an EPA-recognized testing arrangement and confirm details directly with EPA Punjab before setting out. EPA has a vehicle compliance portal and lists a VICS testing order, but those pages do not establish a complete current roster of operating sites or all appointment and walk-in procedures.
- Confirm that the site is authorized and operating, and ask whether an appointment is needed.
- Check the current fee, payment method, required documents, and certificate or sticker validity.
- Keep the test result, payment receipt, vehicle registration information, and any official compliance proof together. These records are prudent to retain; no single item guarantees immunity from enforcement.
EPA Director General Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh’s 27 October 2025 order says: “It shall be mandatory for all the Light Transport Vehicles (LTVs) / Motor Cars plying on the roads of Lahore to undergo the Emission Testing System (ETS) of EPA Punjab and only those vehicles will be allowed to come on roads whose emissions shall be declared compliant to the relevant Punjab Environmental Quality Standards (PEQS) regarding exhaust emission and noise.” The order’s initial 2010–2015 phase and its provision for later schedules qualify how that broad rule was to be implemented. What happens if a vehicle fails or emits smoke?
A vehicle must meet the applicable exhaust and noise standards to be declared compliant under the ETS order. The order says EPA may take legal action against noncompliant vehicles, but it does not set one universal rupee penalty for every emissions breach or ETS failure. Do not treat a repair receipt or a consumer diagnostic device as official clearance; use the applicable EPA testing process.

EPA’s April 2025 order cites the Punjab Environmental Protection Act’s prohibition on operating vehicles exceeding PEQS and the Smog Rules’ authority for administrative penalties. It says vehicular emissions account for “43% to 83%” of Punjab’s emissions inventory; that range is attributed to EPA’s order and is not a Lahore-specific estimate. Read EPA’s April 2025 order.
Maintain the vehicle to the manufacturer’s specifications and address visible smoke or abnormal exhaust promptly. Maintenance can help address a problem, but official compliance depends on the relevant EPA process and standards.

Keep the ETS requirement and a traffic ticket’s payment process distinct. EPA environmental enforcement concerns emissions compliance; a Traffic Police challan is processed under its own instructions. Punjab Traffic Police advises paying within 10 days. Its public guidance says that if documents have been seized and the ticket is unpaid within that period, they are sent to court, where the stated process requires double payment to recover them. The Traffic Police site also lists smoke-emitting vehicle fine categories of PKR 2,000 for motorcycles, PKR 3,000 for three-wheelers, and PKR 15,000 for public transport. Those are figures on the Traffic Police page, not a universal EPA penalty for every car or ETS failure; check the live authority page and the amount on your own challan.

- Confirm an authorized, operating test site and its current fee, required documents, and procedure.
- Keep your official test result and related records available, and maintain the vehicle to reduce avoidable smoke or exhaust problems.
- If you receive a challan, follow the notice’s payment instructions and deadline; do not assume an EPA test receipt cancels a separate traffic ticket.
Does Lahore’s latest anti-smog notice restrict vehicle movement?
Lahore district’s notice dated 23 September 2026 prohibits burning crop residue, garbage, leaves, and other waste and warns that violators may face action. It does not announce a driver-specific movement restriction, alternate-day scheme, or new emissions-test deadline. EPA separately lists a July–September 2026 pre-smog action plan, but the listing alone does not set a current driver schedule.
