KytyPS5 is an actively developed, open-source PS5 emulator for Windows and Linux, with experimental macOS support. It can boot some games, but the developers warn that compatibility is low and crashes, glitches, and poor performance are expected. A game starting is not proof that it is stable or playable. Compared with SharpEmu, available performance reports are not controlled head-to-head tests, so they cannot establish a general winner.
What KytyPS5 is—and which project to download
KytyPS5 is a free, open-source C++ project based on a heavily modified version of Kyty. It is distinct from the older Kyty repository: that earlier project’s limitations should not be treated as a description of the current KytyPS5 build. Use the KytyPS5 repository for current downloads and operating-system-specific instructions.

The maintainers describe Windows and Linux as the primary platforms receiving the most testing. macOS support is experimental. KytyPS5 can boot some 2D and 3D titles, including games made with Unreal Engine 4 or 5, Unity, and custom engines. The developers say current work focuses on expanding compatibility and making booting more reliable; this is not a claim that those games run reliably.
Compatibility: what “boots” actually means
The project warns that behavior can change between builds and that users should expect crashes, graphical glitches, low compatibility, and poor performance. There is no source-established compatibility percentage that can summarize how many games work.
#1 Best Overall
- Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions through haptic feedback
- Experience varying levels of force and tension at your fingertips with adaptive triggers
- Chat online through the built-in microphone and connect a headset directly through the 3.5mm jack
- Switch voice capture on and off using the dedicated mute button
- Play on more devices using the USB Type-C cable or Bluetooth to connect easily to Windows PC and Mac computers, Android and iOS mobile phones as well as your PlayStation 5
- Boots: The emulator starts a title or reaches an initial screen. This says little about later gameplay.
- Reaches gameplay: A playable scene appears, but performance, stability, audio, or rendering may still be unusable.
- Playable: A meaningful portion of the game runs with acceptable stability and correctness. A brief successful launch does not establish this.
- Complete: The game has been played through. A title that has not been tested to completion should not be described as fully compatible.
When checking reports for a particular game, look for the emulator build and test date, the game version, the hardware and operating system, how far the tester progressed, and whether graphics, audio, or crashes interfered. A result from one build or PC is not a guarantee for another.
Performance: KytyPS5 and SharpEmu evidence
SharpEmu is a useful point of comparison, but the published figures below come from separate tests with different contexts. They are not a matched benchmark and do not show that either emulator is generally faster or more compatible.

| Emulator and report | Reported result | What it does—and does not—show |
|---|---|---|
| SharpEmu v0.0.4-release.2; Tom’s Hardware, September 2026 | Six of 55 tested games reached 60 FPS. | Those six were not all tested from start to finish, so the figure is not a completion or overall-compatibility rate. Tom’s Hardware report |
| KytyPS5 running the PS5 version of GTA V; Tom’s Hardware, September 2026 | Roughly 40–60 FPS on a Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Radeon RX 7900 XT system, then a crash after the opening mission. | This is a game- and hardware-specific observation, not a general performance expectation or a completed playthrough. Tom’s Hardware report |
| KytyPS5 running Marvel’s Wolverine; Tom’s Hardware, October 2026 | Gameplay was reached at single-digit frame rates. | This indicates that gameplay rendered in the reported test, not that the game was practical to play. Tom’s Hardware report |
To compare the emulators fairly, test the same game and version on the same hardware, record the build date, and define “playable” before comparing results. Include stability, crashes, rendering and audio issues, frame rate, progress beyond the opening, and whether the game was completed. The reports above do not provide that controlled, head-to-head comparison.

KytyPS5’s documented runtime requirements include a 64-bit x86 processor and a GPU capable of Vulkan 1.3. Consult the repository’s current instructions for the operating system you plan to use; support and setup are not identical across platforms.

- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
- Windows and Linux: These are the primary platforms and receive the most testing, according to the project.
- macOS: Support is experimental and targets x86-64. On Apple Silicon, the project runs under Rosetta 2; Vulkan is provided through MoltenVK. Do not assume this route is as mature as Windows or Linux.
How to set up and launch a game
The repository documents separate build steps for Windows, Linux, and macOS. Follow the instructions for your chosen operating system rather than expecting one universal installer. The documented launcher workflow is:
- Obtain KytyPS5 from its official repository and follow the build or setup instructions for your operating system.
- Open the launcher’s global settings and add the folder or folders where your legally obtained game files are stored.
- Let the launcher search recursively for game directories containing
eboot.bin. - Select a detected title and start it. A successful launch only demonstrates that the title booted; assess stability and gameplay separately.
The command-line emulator also documents launching from a legally obtained game directory or ELF file. Consult the repository for the current command syntax and platform-specific build details.

- Ultra Customizable Controls
- Mappable Back Buttons
- DualSense Wireless Controller Features Built In
- Replaceable Stick Modules and Caps
Use legally obtained game files
KytyPS5’s project documentation says: “Use only game files that you have obtained legally.” It also states that the project does not distribute games or copyrighted system software. The setup process above covers launching files you already have lawful access to; it does not provide game or system software.
