1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSet up Klipsch bookshelf speakers by placing them symmetrically around your main listening seat, aiming their tweeters near seated ear height, and connecting passive models to the matching amplifier channels with correct polarity. Treat these as starting points: the exact speaker manual, room, and listening position determine the final placement.
1. Check the speaker model and connection type
Find the model name and its manual before choosing an amplifier, wiring method, wall clearance, or stand. Passive bookshelf speakers need an amplifier or receiver; confirm that your equipment supports the speaker’s stated load and requirements rather than assuming all Klipsch models share the same specifications. Klipsch’s home theater setup guide discusses connecting speakers to an appropriate receiver.

Some models have two sets of binding posts joined by a metal strip. On models covered by the Reference manual, Klipsch cautions that removing this strip can prevent correct operation. Check your own manual before changing the post configuration.

Place the left and right speakers symmetrically, at equal distances from the main listening position. An approximate equilateral triangle—each speaker about as far from the other as it is from the listener—is a useful starting point. Klipsch’s speaker arrangement guidance says the speakers should be at least as far apart as each is from the listener, typically six feet or more. Adjust for your room and model rather than treating that as a universal minimum.
#1 Best Overall
- 1" Aluminum LTS tweeters
- 90x90 Square Tractrix Horns
- Dual 5.25" Spun-Copper IMG Woofers
- Bass-Reflex via Rear-Firing Port
- Dimensions: 13.3" x 7" x 8.5"
The Reference Premiere manual suggests 6 to 15 feet (1.8 to 4.6 m) between its left and right main speakers. That range applies to the family covered by that manual, not every Klipsch bookshelf speaker or room. See the Reference Premiere Speakers Manual for its model-specific guidance.
- Keep the path from each speaker to the listening position unobstructed.
- Place the tweeters near seated ear height. Stable furniture may work; stands can help when furniture puts the speakers too low or too close together.
- Begin with the speakers facing forward or slightly toward the listening seat. If you test toe-in, angle both speakers by a similar amount.
Change one placement detail at a time and listen, so you can tell what the change did. Klipsch describes this as a subjective process rather than a fixed formula.

- Single 4" spun-copper IMG woofer
- 1" aluminum LTS tweeter mated to a 90x90 square Tractrix Horn
- 68 hertz - 21 kilohertz +/- 3dB; Nominal impedance - 8 ohms; Compatible crossover frequency – 1,730 hertz
- Sensitivity 90dB @ 2.83V/1M. Power Handling (CONT/PEAK) 50W/200W
- The exclusive Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performances. Kapton is an extremely light and rigid material used in the tweeter suspension to provide high efficiency and improve resolution and detail. LTS tweeters are a hallmark of Klipsch speakers, making it a core component of some of the best speakers in the world
3. Account for walls and room surfaces
Leave some space behind rear-ported speakers where practical. Klipsch advises placing them somewhat away from walls, but its general guidance does not establish one clearance that suits every bookshelf model. Use the exact manual, then compare positions in small increments.

Klipsch’s surround-speaker guidance discusses a two-foot gap for especially rear-vented models in that context; do not treat it as a brand-wide bookshelf-speaker requirement. The same guidance warns against placing speakers against a wall or at the rear of a bookshelf. See Klipsch’s home theater setup guide for the context.

- 1” titanium lts vented tweeter with hybrid tractrix Horn
- 6.5" Spun copper cerametallic woofers
- Bass-reflex via rear-firing tractrix port
- Dual binding posts for bi-wire/bi-amp
- Strong, flexible removable magnetic grille
Bare walls and hard floors can contribute to reflections, particularly in nearly square rooms. Rugs or wall hangings are examples of absorptive materials Klipsch suggests. Try room changes only as needed and judge their effect in your space; they are not guaranteed fixes.
4. Connect passive speakers safely
- Turn off the amplifier or receiver before wiring.
- Connect the left speaker to the left channel and the right speaker to the right channel.
- Match positive to positive and negative to negative at both ends—usually red to red and black to black.
- Check for stray wire strands that could touch another terminal. Klipsch warns that a short can damage equipment.
- Before powering up, confirm that each wire is secure and that no bare strands bridge terminals.
The Reference Premiere manual specifies 16–12 gauge wire for its conventional connection instructions. That is model-family-specific guidance; check the manual for your speakers and account for the length of your run.

- ALL NEW 90° x 90° TRACTRIX HORN: Experience the cleanest, most natural sound possible. The increased outer horn dimensions allow for directivity control over a larger bandwidth of frequencies, resulting in improved high frequency directivity and a more accurate sound stage.
- LINEAR TRAVEL SUSPENSION (LTS) ALUMINUM TWEETER WITH KAPTON SUSPENSION: LTS minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performances. Aluminum is an extremely light and rigid material used in the tweeter assembly to provide high efficiency and improve resolution and detail.
- SPUN-COPPER THERMOFORMED CRYSTALLINE POLYMER WOOFERS: Utilizing trickle-down technology from Klipsch’s highly acclaimed Reference Premiere series speakers, the TCP woofers have steeper angling of the cones for a smoother response and improved accuracy and transparency.
- SLEEK, MODERN APPEARANCE: Hidden fasteners, edge-to-edge horn, and low-profile magnetic grilles give the speakers a polished, modern appearance.
- MDF CABINET WITH SCRATCH-RESISTANT, TEXTURED WOOD GRAIN VINYL: Stylish aesthetic with best-in-class durability that results in seamless integration into any décor.
5. Decide whether stands or a subwoofer would help
Furniture or stands
Use stable furniture if it positions the speakers securely and at a suitable height. Stands may make it easier to bring tweeters near seated ear height or achieve the spacing you want. Klipsch lists KS Series stands at 24 and 28 inches and gives example pairings with the R-50M and RP-600M II. Check a stand’s height, footprint, stability, speaker dimensions, and attachment details before buying. The threaded-insert information on the product page applies to certain powered speakers, not automatically to every passive bookshelf model. See the KS Series Bookshelf Speaker Stands page.
Subwoofer or no subwoofer
A subwoofer is optional for stereo bookshelf listening. Consider one if you want more low-frequency support or are building a home theater system. Klipsch describes subwoofers as a complement to bookshelf speakers in its home theater guide and bookshelf speaker guide. Try different subwoofer positions: modest moves can change bass response in a room.

6. Listen, verify, and refine
Start playback at a modest level. Confirm that both channels play and that the left and right signals come from the intended sides. Then make small, deliberate placement adjustments rather than moving several things at once.
Klipsch warns in the Reference manual that prolonged excessive volume can damage hearing and that amplifier overdrive can damage speakers. Use the safe operating limits in the manuals for your specific amplifier and speakers.
