Kiwibit’s Feeder 2 Pro Is Almost the Ultimate Smart Bird Feeder

The Kiwibit Feeder 2 Pro’s camera hardware makes it stand out, but conflicting AI and subscription terms, possible pole costs and mixed app experiences complicate the buy.

The Kiwibit Bird Feeder 2 Pro (model BW513) pairs a 4K HDR camera with PDAF autofocus, slow-motion video, a solar roof and two seed hoppers. That makes it an unusually ambitious smart feeder, but not an automatic best buy: independent reviewers liked its footage while noting occasional app and AI problems, and the cost and AI subscription terms are not consistent across current product information and reviews.

What makes the Feeder 2 Pro different?

The Pro’s headline upgrade is its camera: Kiwibit advertises 4K HDR capture with phase-detection autofocus (PDAF), intended to keep visiting birds in focus. The launch announcement calls it the world’s first smart bird feeder with 4K HDR and autofocus, a manufacturer claim rather than an independently verified category-wide finding. The launch announcement also says the feeder became available in the US through Kiwibit’s website and Amazon on September 15, 2026.

Other manufacturer-listed specifications include 1080p recording at 60 or 120 frames per second, a 130-degree field of view, dual 1.7-liter hoppers, integrated 5W dual solar panels, a removable 5,200mAh battery, IP65 weather protection and dual-band 2.4/5GHz Wi-Fi. Kiwibit says the hoppers offer 13% more capacity, but does not identify a comparison model on the product page. These are stated specifications, not independent measurements. The package is compatible with Android and iOS apps and offers Alexa live view and voice commands, according to Kiwibit. The product supports microSD cards up to 512GB, but the card is not included. Kiwibit also lists a one-day rolling cloud history at no charge, with longer cloud history available through a subscription.

How good are the camera and bird captures?

WIRED reviewer Kat Merck tested the feeder for four weeks. She praised the shareable 8-megapixel stills and video captures of up to three minutes, and said PDAF helped minimize blur. She also reported occasional focus movement that seemed to distract birds. These are observations from one reviewer’s setup, not a measured rate or a guarantee of what every owner will see.

Notebookcheck’s September 30, 2026 review also described the experience positively overall, while noting occasional app and audio-video friction. Taken together, the reviews support the camera as a major strength, but they do not establish that every visit will be captured or that footage and app behavior will be flawless. Is bird identification included, or does it require a subscription?

There is no single entitlement to assume across every Feeder 2 Pro offer. Kiwibit’s product page includes lifetime or FeatherPal AI language, but its FAQ also says AI identification requires an optional subscription. WIRED’s review describes AI identification as part of Kiwibit Plus; Merck tested one week without that plan and three weeks with it. Notebookcheck, by contrast, says the Pro package it reviewed included permanent AI recognition. Those accounts conflict, so check the live listing and the exact bundle and terms shown at checkout before relying on AI being included or estimating ongoing costs.

Even with a plan, AI labels should be treated as suggestions rather than definitive identifications. Merck reported that the AI misidentified some species, including birds that do not occur in her western Washington location. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a published accuracy rate or evidence of performance in every region. A local field guide can help verify uncertain labels.

What happens if you skip the subscription?

In Merck’s WIRED test, image and video quality stayed the same without a subscription, but the free experience had no AI identification and only a basic capture feed. Kiwibit lists one day of rolling cloud history free; WIRED describes 60-day cloud recording, gallery views and roundup reports with the paid plan Merck tested, which was $90 per year at the time of that review. That price and package describe her test, not a guaranteed current offer.

Local storage is a separate option: Kiwibit lists microSD support up to 512GB, with the card sold separately. Notebookcheck says an SD card is needed for 120-fps recording. Before buying, decide whether you want local footage, cloud history, AI labels or a combination, then confirm which features the exact package includes.

Does the package include a pole, and will solar power be enough?

Kiwibit’s launch announcement describes wall, pole and tree-strap mounting options, and the product listing includes wall and pole brackets. A bracket is not a freestanding yard pole: Notebookcheck notes that a dedicated metal ground pole is not included. Check the mounting location and whether you will need a compatible pole or squirrel baffle; confirm BW513 compatibility before buying accessories.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The solar roof and removable battery offer flexibility, but the listed 5W panel specification does not establish how long the feeder will run in a particular yard or through low-sun conditions. Placement, shade and weather will affect available sunlight. If the site gets limited sun, plan for battery charging rather than assuming solar alone will keep the camera running.

Kiwibit 75 Inch Smart Bird Feeder Pole with Squirrel Proof Baffle
  • COMPLETE BIRD FEEDER POLE KIT - All-in-one setup includes a squirrel baffle and all essential hardware. Easily adjust the pole height to 50", 65", or 75" by combining different pole sections. It features universal compatibility that fits standard 1" pole mount bird feeders, and pairs perfectly with the entire line of Kiwibit smart bird feeders with camera to build your ultimate viewing station.
  • SQUIRREL PROOF BIRD HOUSE POLE - The extra-wide 19” guard creates a "wobble effect" that prevents rodents from gaining a foothold. Whether they fly or climb, this guard stops persistent squirrels and raccoons. For the best rodent-proofing results, we recommend installing the baffle about 1 ft below the feeder and 4 ft above the ground to keep bird seeds safe for your feathery friends.
  • HEAVY DUTY & METAL BASE - Built from high-quality 1" diameter metal poles with an electro-coating process, this pole is rust-resistant and weatherproof against harsh sun and rain. The heavy-duty 5-prong metal base inserts 13" into the ground, working with securely locked joints on each section to resist bending and wobbling even in extreme storm weather.
  • EASY TO INSTALL & USE - No tools required. The smart threaded connection lets you adjust the height to your needs effortlessly. Just position the 5-prong base, step it firmly into the ground with your feet, screw on each pole section in turn to your desired height, and fix the top platform. Easily mount your bird house or feeder to bring beautiful birds and life to your backyard.
  • ALL-IN-ONE BIRD FEEDER POLE SETUP - Create a welcoming feeding spot in your yard, garden, or patio with a sturdy outdoor pole made for daily bird visits. Designed to work with most smart bird feeders, including bird house, it adds practical support and classic garden charm. A useful gift for bird watchers, gardeners, and nature lovers.

Is the Feeder 2 Pro worth its premium price?

It is most compelling for birdwatchers who want close-up, shareable footage and value autofocus, high-resolution capture and slow-motion modes. The price is harder to justify if you mainly want a basic feeder camera, expect AI identification to be dependable without checking labels, or do not want possible recurring charges. WIRED rated it 7/10, praising the footage while describing the product as premium but paywalled.

Prices vary by retailer and promotion. In August 2026, Kiwibit’s listing displayed $259.99, reduced from $299.99, plus a displayed $20-off code; WIRED showed $230 at Amazon and $260 at Kiwibit, while Notebookcheck described promotions around $229 and standard retail around $259. These are dated offers and may no longer be available. Kiwibit’s listing also displayed an estimated 3–7 business-day shipping time, 30-day returns and a one-year warranty; confirm all terms on the live listing. Check Kiwibit’s current product listing.

Compare the full cost, not just the feeder: any subscription, a microSD card if you want local or 120-fps recording, and mounting hardware if your spot needs a ground pole. Kiwibit’s September 15, 2026 launch announcement outlines the available mounting approaches.

Verdict

The Feeder 2 Pro comes close to an all-in-one smart bird feeder: its advertised camera hardware is compelling, and independent reviewers found plenty to like in the captures. It falls short of an easy recommendation because AI and cloud entitlements vary across the product listing and reviews, AI labels can be wrong, and a ground pole may be an extra purchase. Buy for the camera first; treat AI as a feature to verify, not a settled inclusion.
