Kioxia’s new LD4 Series is an E1.L data-center SSD built with BiCS FLASH generation 8 QLC. Kioxia lists 15.36TB and 30.72TB models; the headline figure of up to 122.88TB is a maximum enabled by a validated architecture, not a capacity point the company lists as currently available. The drives are sampling to selected customers, with no general availability date or price announced.
What Kioxia announced
The LD4 Series is Kioxia’s first E1.L SSD using its BiCS FLASH generation 8 QLC memory. The company positions it for high-density 1U servers and read-intensive storage in hyperscale data centers, rather than as a consumer drive. Kioxia’s October 9, 2026 announcement describes the product and its intended environments.

Is the 122.88TB version available now?
Not according to the announcement. Kioxia lists 15.36TB and 30.72TB capacity points and says its validated architecture enables capacities up to 122.88TB. That maximum should not be read as a listed model available for order. Kioxia defines TB using decimal bytes and notes that formatted capacity can vary. The drives are sampling to selected customers; Kioxia has not announced a general availability date or price.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What E1.L means for server compatibility
E1.L belongs to the Enterprise and Datacenter Standard Form Factor (EDSFF) family. Kioxia’s form-factor overview describes an E1.L symmetric enclosure measuring 9.5mm thick, 38.4mm wide, and 318.75mm long. Those dimensions describe the form factor, not a guarantee that the drive fits every server: confirm support with the specific chassis, connector, and backplane documentation. See Kioxia Europe’s EDSFF E1 overview, which says its information is believed accurate as of October 2025 and may change.
Why Kioxia is targeting read-intensive storage
QLC is the flash type Kioxia chose for this high-capacity product. In a regional announcement, Kioxia America senior vice president and SSD business-unit general manager Neville Ichhaporia said QLC is compelling for read-intensive applications because of the capacity and read performance needed for large AI data stores. That is Kioxia’s rationale, not independent evidence of LD4 benchmark results. The release does not provide workload-specific measurements with which to assess the drive’s performance.

What to check before evaluating an LD4 deployment
- Confirm whether the capacity under consideration is one of the listed 15.36TB or 30.72TB points, rather than the 122.88TB architecture maximum.
- Verify E1.L chassis and backplane support for the exact server platform.
- Check the intended workload and obtain endurance, power, thermal, and performance specifications from the supplier; these are not stated in the announcement.
- Request comparable workload-specific measurements and confirm pricing and delivery timing when Kioxia or an authorized supplier provides them.
