Keisha Lance Bottoms’ central message to Georgia voters was simple: vote even if no candidate is perfect, then ask other people to vote too. In a 101.1 The Wiz recap of her appearance on the Still Posted Aftershow, the former Atlanta mayor and Georgia gubernatorial candidate discussed voting, leadership, state policy and why participation matters.
What Bottoms urged voters to do
Bottoms advised first-time voters to “Put away the purity test,” according to the 101.1 The Wiz recap. She compared choosing a candidate to a relationship in which no option is perfect: waiting for an ideal choice can mean sitting out rather than taking part.
Her practical next step was to vote and then call ten friends to encourage them to do the same. The message was about both individual participation and turning that participation into conversations with others.
Why she said each vote matters
The recap reports that Bottoms cited an average of 21 votes per precinct separating the winner and loser in Georgia’s 2018 governor’s race. That is her reported interview figure, not a statewide margin, and it has not been independently verified here. Bottoms used it to make the case that a small number of voters can matter in a close contest.

She also described meeting people during campaign travel, saying, “I can put faces with the fight.” The recap quotes her telling voters, “We’ve made too much progress to take 10 steps back,” and, when asked how a win would be celebrated, “We just gotta win.”
What she said a governor can influence
Bottoms described a governor’s role in proposing the state budget before legislative approval and appointing the Board of Regents, which helps set college tuition. The recap connects the budget discussion to mental health services, health care, workforce housing, education and small businesses.

These examples explain why she presented the governor’s race as consequential: the office has influence over budget priorities and appointments, although the recap is not a detailed account of the limits of those powers.
