You can generally view live video, receive motion notifications, and use two-way audio. But alerts are not saved cloud clips: Arlo says Video History and Activity Zones are unavailable without a plan or trial. To save footage without ongoing cloud charges, some compatible cameras can record locally through an Arlo SmartHub or Base Station.
What still works when Arlo Secure ends?
Arlo’s post-trial guidance lists live streaming, push notifications, two-way audio, and local recording on supported devices among the features that continue without a plan. Auto zoom and tracking also remain available on supported models. The company’s broader no-plan feature list includes doorbell calls, schedules and arrive/leave automations, and deterrence tools such as a spotlight, siren, and two-way audio. Availability varies by camera and region, so treat these as platform-level features, not a guarantee for every device. Arlo’s post-trial feature list and subscription overview describe the details.

- Live viewing: Open the app to check the camera’s live feed.
- Alerts: Motion notifications can tell you that activity was detected, but do not by themselves preserve a clip.
- Two-way audio: You can generally speak through the camera where the model supports this feature.
- Automation and deterrence: Schedules, modes, doorbell calls, spotlight, and siren functions depend on the camera and setup.
Can you view live video without paying?
Yes. Arlo lists live streaming among the features available without a service plan. That lets you check the feed when you open the app, but it is different from having a searchable recording history. Arlo says Video History is unavailable without a plan or trial, so do not assume a motion alert means a cloud clip was saved for later viewing. Arlo’s guidance for when a trial ends makes that distinction.

For supported equipment, local storage through a compatible SmartHub or Base Station is the documented alternative to cloud recording. Arlo says a hub or base station can be used as primary storage when you are not subscribed to Secure. The exact camera, hub or base station, and supported storage media matter; check the compatibility information for your specific devices before buying anything. Which features may require a plan or a particular model?
Arlo identifies Activity Zones and Video History as unavailable without a plan or trial. Some detection and convenience features are also model-specific. For example, auto zoom and tracking are not available on every device; Arlo notes that Essential Pan Tilt Cameras do not support that feature, and their Auto Track requires a trial or subscription. Check the product’s feature and compatibility pages before relying on a particular function. Arlo’s post-trial guidance covers these limitations.
Do older Arlo cameras still get free cloud recordings?
Some legacy models are an exception in Arlo’s UK/EU plan information, not a rule for current cameras or every country. That page lists Pro 2, Pro, Q, Q+, Go, Baby, and Arlo Wire-Free (VMC3030) as eligible for seven-day free cloud recording at up to 1080p, with a five-camera maximum. The same UK/EU page describes paid Secure with seven-day cloud recording at up to 2K and Secure Plus with 14-day recording at up to 4K. These are regional plan terms documented by Arlo in 2026; check the current terms for your country and model rather than assuming the legacy allowance applies. Does cancelling Secure limit how many cameras you can add?
Arlo says an account can support an unlimited number of cameras with or without Secure. That does not mean unlimited recording: recording capacity and plan entitlements depend on the applicable plan and region. Arlo’s account camera guidance addresses camera count.

- Confirm the exact camera model and the features it supports.
- Check whether it is compatible with the SmartHub or Base Station you intend to use.
- Verify which storage media that hub or base station supports.
- Confirm your country’s current cloud-plan terms, especially if you own an older camera.
- Decide whether alerts and live checks are enough, or whether you need recordings you can retrieve later.
Arlo’s plan descriptions differ by region. Its Australia, Canada, and New Zealand information describes regional Basic and Plus options and says customers may choose no service plan while retaining local storage and two-way audio; those terms should not be generalized to other countries.
