Neither provider is a clear winner for every workload. Kamatera is the stronger fit if you want to size a server more precisely, pay hourly or monthly, or choose from its listed deployment regions. Contabo suits buyers who prefer fixed, resource-heavy bundles, especially when choosing among standard SSD, NVMe Performance, and Max Performance tiers. Compare the exact configuration, region, billing term, and recovery options before choosing; the listed prices are not like-for-like.
How do Kamatera and Contabo differ?
Kamatera emphasizes configurable cloud servers: customers choose an operating system and applications, then can scale memory, storage, and processors through its console. Its product page lists hourly and monthly billing and says servers can be scaled up or down. Contabo instead presents named, standardized plans. Its support documentation describes Core as fixed in CPU, RAM, network/traffic, and snapshot count, with higher tiers intended for workloads that need more storage speed, CPU throughput, or consistency.

That difference matters as much as the advertised price. A small, short-lived server may benefit from hourly billing and custom sizing; a workload that needs a large bundle of memory and storage may fit a fixed Contabo plan. Neither product label establishes how fast your application will run.
What do the listed prices and configurations include?
The figures below are examples displayed on provider pages checked in 2026, not a matched comparison. Kamatera’s are monthly examples; the cited Contabo prices are US-page prices displayed for a 24-month term. Currency, taxes, checkout choices, and optional services can affect the amount due.
#1 Best Overall
| Provider and plan | Listed resources | Displayed price and billing context | Traffic or port information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kamatera Basic | 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, 20 GB NVMe SSD | $4/month on the Cloud Servers page | 5 TB internet traffic |
| Kamatera Standard | 2 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 20 GB NVMe SSD | $25/month on the Cloud Servers page | 5 TB internet traffic |
| Kamatera Pro | 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 20 GB NVMe SSD | $39/month on the Cloud Servers page | 5 TB internet traffic |
| Contabo Cloud VPS Plus 4 | 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 150 GB NVMe | $13/month, displayed for a 24-month term on Contabo’s US pricing page | 500 Mbit/s port |
| Contabo Cloud VPS Plus 6 | 6 vCPU, 12 GB RAM, 300 GB NVMe | $18.40/month, displayed for a 24-month term on Contabo’s US pricing page | Port rate not stated for this example |
These examples do not establish which provider is cheaper for an equivalent server: the configurations differ in CPU, memory, storage, traffic terms, and billing commitment. Contabo’s US pricing page also lists Core VPS 4/6/8/12/16/18 plans across 4–18 vCPU cores, 8–96 GB RAM, 100–600 GB SSD, and 200 Mbit/s–1 Gbit/s port rates, with displayed prices tied to a 24-month term. The reviewed figures do not supply a specific Core plan price to compare with the Kamatera examples.
Check the full cost, not just the headline price
- For Kamatera, the page lists additional traffic at $0.01 per GB and additional storage at $0.05 per GB per month. Hourly servers are billed by the minute. Confirm how your selected configuration is charged in checkout.
- For Contabo Core, “unlimited” traffic is subject to a usage policy: the provider says exceptionally high or disruptive usage may be throttled at its discretion. Check the policy against your expected traffic pattern.
- For either provider, confirm the current renewal amount, applicable tax or VAT, currency, term, and any optional backup or management charges before ordering.
Which Contabo tier should you consider?
Core: fixed, cost-oriented bundles
Contabo describes Core as a standardized tier for everyday workloads such as websites and CMSs, private email, development and testing, backup, and storage. Its CPU, RAM, network/traffic, and snapshot count are fixed for the plan. Consider it when a bundle matches your needs and you can accept the documented traffic policy and fixed allocation.

Performance: NVMe and snapshots
Contabo positions Performance VPS for workloads where storage speed or CPU throughput matters. Its portfolio documentation lists NVMe and up to five snapshots per Performance plan. Contabo’s guidance recommends moving up when Core performance varies or when Performance-tier consistency is insufficient. A tier description is a provider positioning statement, not an independent performance result.
Max Performance: more demanding production workloads
Contabo positions Max Performance for demanding production applications, high-traffic services, SaaS, and stricter SLA requirements. The reviewed material does not provide a matched independent test or enough plan-level figures to determine whether a Max Performance configuration will outperform a particular Kamatera server.

How do scaling, regions, backups, and support compare?
Scaling and server locations
Kamatera says customers can scale memory, storage, and processors through its console, and lists hourly or monthly pricing. Its product page lists deployment locations in eight US cities, Toronto, seven European cities, Hong Kong, Israel, Singapore, Tokyo, and Sydney. Choose a region close to your users, then confirm that the specific location and configuration are available during checkout.
The reviewed Contabo information does not give a matching detailed location list, so it does not support a location-count comparison. Check the locations available for the plan you intend to buy.
Backups and snapshots
Kamatera describes extended daily backup as an optional add-on; do not assume it is included in the base server. Contabo’s Performance documentation lists up to five snapshots per plan, while Core has a fixed snapshot count. A snapshot and a backup are not automatically equivalent: before relying on either, establish what is captured, how many restore points are retained, whether recovery is automatic or separate, and whether you can restore the server to the state and granularity your workload needs.
Support and uptime terms
Kamatera advertises 24/7 technical support and a 99.95% uptime guarantee. Those are provider statements, not independently measured results. The reviewed Contabo sources do not establish a directly comparable uptime guarantee for the plans discussed. Read each plan’s applicable SLA, exclusions, and remedy before using either service for a production-critical system; a percentage alone does not tell you what compensation or recovery you can claim.

Which provider is the better fit for your workload?
- Choose Kamatera as the first option to investigate if precise resource sizing, per-minute billing for hourly servers, monthly billing, or its listed region footprint is important. Check current traffic allowances, overage costs, backup add-ons, management needs, and SLA terms for your selected configuration.
- Choose Contabo Core as the first option to investigate if a standardized bundle with substantial memory or storage suits your workload and you accept a term-based price, fixed resources, and the stated traffic policy.
- Consider Contabo Performance if NVMe storage and the tier’s snapshot offering fit your recovery and workload needs. Compare its selected plan with a Kamatera server sized for similar CPU, memory, storage, region, and billing duration.
- Do not pick a performance winner from specifications alone. For production or latency-sensitive applications, run a representative workload test, check latency from your users’ regions, and test the actual restore process before committing.
What is established—and what is not?
The providers’ official pages establish their advertised plan structures, listed prices, features, and service claims as checked in 2026. They do not establish that one provider is faster or more reliable in observed use: no matched independent comparative benchmark is available here. Kamatera’s 99.95% figure is a guarantee claim, not an independently calculated uptime record, and it cannot be treated as directly equivalent to a Contabo commitment that the reviewed material does not specify.
For a consequential deployment, select a region and configuration first, compare the full cost for the same billing period, and test your own application under representative load. Verify the contract and recovery process rather than treating a plan name, advertised guarantee, or snapshot count as a substitute for those checks.
