What Just Create SMP is, and which release to install
Just Create SMP is a Create-focused survival multiplayer pack with a small set of quality-of-life (QOL) additions. The official projects target Minecraft 1.21.1 and the NeoForge modloader. There are two separate project generations, so identify the one your friends or community server has chosen before downloading anything.

CurseForge page metadata recorded 618,310 downloads for the original project and 83,682 for the Season 2 project. Those figures are page snapshots, not a guarantee of current activity or server availability. A community may standardize on either generation; the server owner’s chosen release is the one you must install.
Choose by compatibility first, not by the larger download number. If a creator, friend group, or hosted server announces “JCSMP 0.5,” install the original project. If it announces Season 2 or 1.0.3, install the Season 2 project. Both use 1.21.1, but their mod lists, configuration files, and server archives are different. Installing the wrong generation can produce a missing-mod error even when the Minecraft version appears correct.

Compatibility rules that prevent most installation errors
A modpack is a coordinated set of mods, configuration files, and a loader profile. CurseForge explains that a modloader loads the mods and makes them function together. For Just Create SMP, compatibility means all three of these identifiers match:
- Minecraft: 1.21.1.
- Loader: NeoForge, not Forge or Fabric.
- Pack release: Original 0.5 or Season 2 1.0.3, including the matching server files.
Do not combine a 1.21.1 client with another Minecraft version, switch loaders because a launcher offers a different default, or copy individual mods from one generation into the other. CurseForge notes that mods and game versions are not universally interchangeable across loaders. A profile that opens to a vanilla title screen, reports missing mods, or disconnects during the registry phase is often a version or loader mismatch rather than a world problem.

When a player reports a connection failure, ask for a screenshot or text showing all three values instead of trying random mod swaps.
Computer and account requirements
- Use a Minecraft Java Edition account. When the launcher requests authentication, sign in with the required Microsoft/Minecraft account; skipping a separate classic-launcher step does not remove the account requirement.
- Install a launcher that supports Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge profiles. The launcher must be able to import or create the selected pack release.
- Leave enough system memory for Windows, macOS, or Linux and other running applications. Modded Minecraft needs more headroom than an unmodded profile.
- For a server, use a machine with a stable network connection, write access to a clean directory, and permission to run the archive’s included launcher files.
A client and a dedicated server have different workloads. A client must render the world and interface, while a server tracks entities, chunks, players, and Create contraptions. A computer that can launch the pack is not automatically a good always-on host. If the machine is also used for school, work, or streaming, leave memory and processor capacity for those tasks rather than assigning every available resource to Minecraft.
Install the client profile
- Open the official project page. Select the original project if your group uses release 0.5, or the Season 2 project if it uses release 1.0.3. Open the files list and select that exact release rather than an older or similarly named file.
- Create or import the profile in your launcher. Choose the listed Minecraft version, 1.21.1, and the NeoForge loader. If the launcher asks which file to use, point it to the selected pack archive instead of installing only the Create mod.
- Verify the profile before launching. The profile summary should show Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge, and the intended pack release. Stop here if it shows Forge, Fabric, another game version, or an unlabelled custom profile.
- Set memory. CurseForge allocates 4 GB (4096 MB) by default for modpacks and recommends not lowering the allocation below 4 GB. Keep that as the starting point unless your computer cannot spare it; allocating so much that the operating system becomes starved causes a different class of crashes.
- Choose Java only when necessary. CurseForge allows you to select a Java executable manually. Prefer the launcher-managed executable when it works. If you must change it, select the Java installation approved by your launcher or server administrator and keep the same choice documented for future troubleshooting.
- Launch once in single-player. Allow the pack to finish creating its instance and reach the title screen. This catches client-side download or profile errors before you attempt to connect to a server.
Do not remove a mod just because it appears to be client-oriented, and do not add an extra version from another pack. The pack’s configuration and dependency set are part of the release identity.
On the first launch, allow time for libraries, configuration files, and world-generation data to initialize. Avoid interrupting the process unless the launcher is clearly frozen. If the profile reaches the title screen but a server later rejects the connection, keep the profile intact and compare its release identifiers with the server rather than rebuilding it from individual mods.

Set up a dedicated Just Create SMP server
1. Download the matching server files
From the same project generation used by your players, download the server archive: Just Create SMP 0.5 [Server Files].zip for the original pack or JCSMP S2 Server 1.0.3.zip for Season 2. A client ZIP is not a substitute for the server-files ZIP; the latter is packaged for a dedicated instance.
2. Create a clean server directory
Make a new folder dedicated to this instance, extract the archive into it, and preserve the folder structure. Do not unpack over an unrelated Minecraft server or an old generation. The captured project pages confirm the archive names but do not document their internal scripts, so use the launcher files and readme included in the archive rather than copying a command from a different server guide.

Use a path that the account running Minecraft can read and write. Avoid extracting into a temporary downloads folder that may be cleaned automatically. Before changing anything, keep the original ZIP in an administrator-only storage location so you can restore a clean installation if a configuration experiment goes wrong.
3. Perform the first start
Run the included launcher according to its readme. The first start normally creates the world and configuration files and may stop while Minecraft requests acceptance of its EULA. Open the generated EULA file, set the acceptance value as instructed by Minecraft, save it, and start the server again. If the archive supplies a platform-specific launcher, use that file instead of guessing a Java command.
Watch the console until it reports that the server is ready. A window that closes immediately may indicate a permission, Java, or path problem; capture the final console lines before restarting so the administrator can identify the failure. Do not delete the world folder simply because the first startup stopped for EULA acceptance.
4. Configure server.properties
After the first successful file generation, edit server.properties while the server is stopped. Set only what your group needs:
- Port: keep the default if it is free, or choose a documented alternate port and forward that same port through the router or hosting panel.
- Difficulty: select the level agreed by the group before players begin building.
- View distance: start conservatively for the available CPU and memory; raise it only after monitoring tick performance.
- Whitelist: enable it for a private SMP and add players deliberately.
- Operator access: grant operator status only to trusted administrators. It is separate from ordinary whitelist membership.
Change one setting at a time, restart cleanly, and keep a backup of the properties file so a failed edit can be reversed.
Document the chosen port and whether the server is private or public. If a router, firewall, or hosting panel is involved, the external port must point to the internal server port. A correct pack cannot compensate for a blocked network path, and changing several network settings at once makes diagnosis harder.

5. Test locally, then publish the address
Join from a client on the same machine or local network first. Confirm that the world loads, Create machines behave normally, and no missing-mod screen appears. For remote players, expose the configured port through the host or router, share the public address privately, and keep the whitelist enabled while testing.
6. Give every player the exact client profile
Send players to the same project generation and release used by the server. They need Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge, and the corresponding client pack. A player on original 0.5 cannot reliably join a Season 2 1.0.3 server, even though both projects use Minecraft 1.21.1.

Hosted deployment options
If you do not want to maintain a home machine, choose a managed host that explicitly supports NeoForge 1.21.1 and allows a custom modpack or server-files upload. Confirm that support before paying: a host offering generic Forge or Fabric templates may not run this pack correctly.
There is no single Just Create SMP hosting price. Compare the provider’s current plan cost with its memory allocation, storage, backups, player limits, and support for custom NeoForge files. The cheapest plan is not useful if it cannot keep the world online or rejects the server archive. Check those capabilities and the provider’s terms before purchase.

These are deployment methods, not alternate pack releases. You still need the exact Just Create SMP generation, NeoForge 1.21.1 support, persistent storage for the world, and a backup plan. For Docker, verify that the world, configuration, and server files live in persistent volumes rather than only inside a disposable container.
Memory and Java settings
CurseForge’s documented modpack default is 4 GB (4096 MB), and it recommends not reducing that allocation below 4 GB. Treat 4 GB as a starting point rather than a promise that every server or client will run optimally. Required memory changes with player count, view distance, loaded chunks, and the size of Create automation.

More memory cannot repair a wrong loader, an incompatible mod, or an overloaded view distance. When testing Java, change the executable through the launcher’s Java setting, make one change at a time, and record the path so all administrators can reproduce the setup.
On a shared computer, monitor total system memory rather than the Minecraft number alone. If the operating system begins swapping, reduce other applications or lower the allocation instead of continually adding RAM to the profile. For a server, watch both memory and tick behavior; a server can have free memory and still struggle with excessive view distance or many active contraptions.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The launcher shows the wrong loader or game version
Edit the profile and explicitly select Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge. Remove duplicate profiles that point to Forge, Fabric, or another game version. Reinstall the selected pack release if the profile metadata remains incorrect.
The server stops with missing mods or registry errors
Compare the server archive name with every player’s pack release. Original 0.5 and Season 2 1.0.3 are different generations. Re-extract the correct server-files ZIP into a clean directory and do not copy a mods folder from another instance.

The client crashes before the title screen
Return memory to the documented 4 GB starting point, close other memory-intensive applications, and verify the selected Java executable. If the crash began after adding a mod or changing a configuration file, restore the pack’s original files instead of troubleshooting several changes at once.

Check that the server is running, the configured port is reachable through the host or router, and the address includes the correct port when it is non-default. Test locally first; a local success isolates network forwarding from pack compatibility.
The world lags when machines run
Lower view distance before adding memory, spread large contraptions and farms, and test with fewer simultaneous players. Create automation can increase workload even when the pack itself is described as lightweight.
A player is rejected despite using NeoForge
Ask for the complete profile information, not just the loader name. Minecraft version, pack generation, and release must all match the server. Have the player launch the profile once in single-player so missing downloads appear before another connection attempt.
The server works locally but not for one remote player
Have that player verify the address, port, firewall permission, and complete pack profile. If other remote players can join, the server’s pack is probably correct; compare the affected player’s launcher version and network path before changing the server files.

Updating, backups, and switching seasons
Freeze the current world before changing generations. Stop the server, copy the entire world directory and server.properties, and record the current release. Treat an upgrade from original 0.5 to Season 2 1.0.3 as a migration project, not a routine mod update; test the new server in a separate directory and never point it at the only copy of the live world.
For routine maintenance, schedule backups while the server is stopped or after a confirmed save, keep at least one copy away from the server machine, and document who has operator access. Keep the client archive and server archive together in your records so a returning player can reproduce the exact profile.
Before an update, announce a maintenance window and tell players which release they should install afterward. Keep the old server directory untouched until everyone has connected successfully to the new instance. If the migration fails, restoring the old directory and backup is safer than trying to reconstruct a world from partial files.
