You can build a Flutter dashboard for NVIDIA Jetson and ROS 2 by combining documented telemetry producers with a ROS 2 WebSocket connection or an HTTP/metrics intermediary. The pieces exist, but no source establishes a ready-made NVIDIA Flutter dashboard, deterministic real-time delivery, or measured end-to-end latency for this combination. Treat “real-time” as live monitoring unless you define and measure a latency target.

What the dashboard can monitor

Choose telemetry according to the operational question you need to answer. Jetson board health, ROS 2 node status, video-pipeline performance, and topic activity come from different sources; none should be assumed to appear automatically in every deployment.

  • Jetson device health: Current Isaac ROS Jetson documentation describes a ROS 2 package that wraps jetson_stats output and publishes diagnostic messages. Listed capabilities include system monitoring, fan and GPU-frequency control, power management, thermal-throttling monitoring, memory usage, and JetPack version detection.
  • Application and system metrics: NVIDIA Jetson Platform Services monitoring documents metrics for GPU utilization, clock frequency and temperature; CPU core usage; EMC bandwidth; encoder and decoder frequencies; camera identity, status and failure counts; stream FPS; and general RAM, CPU, network and filesystem use. Custom exporters can expose application-status metrics.
  • ROS 2 topic activity: greenwave_monitor is a terminal dashboard for topic rates and monitoring. It is useful for development and debugging, not a Flutter interface.
  • DeepStream pipeline metrics: If the robot actually runs DeepStream, NVIDIA documents an OpenTelemetry pipeline plugin with OTLP/HTTP export for stream FPS, pipeline latency, frame number, stream count, CPU and GPU utilization, and RAM use. These are conditional on that pipeline, not generic ROS 2 telemetry.

Interpret Jetson-specific diagnostics carefully

The current Isaac ROS Jetson page reports testing with ROS 2 Jazzy on Jetson platforms and says x86_64 is unsupported. Confirm the hardware, JetPack, and ROS 2 combination against the release-specific documentation before installing. The separate ros2_jetson_stats repository describes a similar diagnostic wrapper, but its README says it was tested with ROS 2 Eloquent; use it as historical evidence for the pattern rather than proof of compatibility with a current distribution.

Do not assume battery telemetry

The documented sources establish metrics such as power mode, temperature, memory, and GPU activity, but they do not establish a battery telemetry source. If your robot has a battery, identify the battery-management hardware and ROS 2 driver that publish its measurements before designing a battery panel.

Choose a path from Jetson to Flutter

There is no universally best bridge in the documented options. Select one based on the message types, deployment topology, and security controls your system supports.

Path Best fit What to validate
ROS 2 connection from Flutter Application topics and diagnostics that the Flutter client needs to subscribe to. The ros2_flutter package documents widgets built on ros2_client and a shared ROS connection using a WebSocket URI. Verify message-type support, compatibility with your ROS 2 setup, and network security.
HTTP or metrics intermediary Selected device and application metrics, plus alert-oriented views. Jetson Platform Services documents exporters, Prometheus scraping and alert evaluation, Alertmanager routing, Grafana visualization, and a web server with HTTP alert operations also exposed for other clients, including mobile users. Do not assume every deployment exposes identical endpoints or that the documentation provides a Flutter SDK.
DeepStream OpenTelemetry export Video-pipeline performance when the system uses DeepStream. Confirm that the documented plugin and OTLP/HTTP export fit the actual pipeline and receiver. These metrics are not supplied just because ROS 2 is present.

Flutter package maturity

The ros2_flutter documentation labels the package pre-1.0 and warns that its API may change. It is a candidate integration path, not a stable official NVIDIA component. Pin and test the version you adopt, and review package maintenance and security before relying on it in a deployed robot.

Build the interface around operational decisions

A useful dashboard should answer whether the device is reachable, whether the values are current, whether the Jetson is constrained, and whether important topics or streams are active. Keep board health distinct from application-level status so a healthy GPU reading cannot be mistaken for a healthy robot behavior.

Suggested screen organization

  • Connection: Show the connected state and the time of the last successful update.
  • Freshness: Put a timestamp or age beside each changing value. Mark data stale when updates stop rather than leaving an old number looking current.
  • Device health: Group temperature, thermal-throttling state, memory, CPU/GPU activity, clocks, and power information when the selected telemetry producer supplies them.
  • ROS 2 activity: Show the status of important nodes or diagnostics and the rate or last update of key topics.
  • Video, if applicable: Present stream status, FPS, and pipeline latency only when a camera/DeepStream pipeline supplies those measurements.

These are interface design recommendations, not measured guarantees from the package documentation. The Flutter package includes examples involving telemetry, camera, lidar, and teleoperation, but the available documentation does not establish the dashboard’s frame rate or resource cost.

Control collection and update rates

More frequent collection can make changes visible sooner, but it also adds work. NVIDIA warns in its monitoring documentation that increasing scrape frequency and metric quantity raises CPU and RAM usage. Start with only the metrics needed for operational decisions, set bounded update rates, and measure the effect on the actual Jetson workload before increasing collection frequency.

Keep collection cadence separate from display refresh: a UI can redraw often without requesting new telemetry each time. Preserve source timestamps where available, and make stale or disconnected states explicit. The safe refresh interval depends on the workload and deployment; the cited documentation does not prescribe one.

What “real-time” means here

The documented components support monitoring and telemetry, but they do not establish deterministic delivery or an end-to-end latency benchmark for a Flutter–Jetson–ROS 2 dashboard. A dashboard that updates continuously is not automatically suitable for hard deadlines or closed-loop control. Use it for observation unless the complete path has been measured and validated against the timing requirements of the application.

For context, NVIDIA’s DeepStream documentation gives typical stream values of 25–30 FPS depending on source and typical pipeline latency of 30–100 ms, with lower latency preferred. Those are documentation examples for pipelines, not measurements or guarantees for this dashboard or a particular Jetson system. The same documentation notes that its gpu_memory_gb metric does not apply to aarch64 Jetson Thor: unified memory is used and the metric returns -1.

Practical validation checklist

  1. Confirm the Jetson model, JetPack release, and ROS 2 distribution supported by the selected Isaac ROS Jetson release.
  2. Choose the telemetry producers: ROS 2 diagnostics and application topics, Jetson Platform Services metrics, and DeepStream/OpenTelemetry only if that pipeline is in use.
  3. Choose the client path: a ROS 2 WebSocket connection or a selected HTTP/metrics API. Test the required message types and network access in the intended deployment.
  4. In Flutter, show connection and freshness separately from the reported measurement, and define how the UI behaves when updates stop.
  5. Measure update delay and Jetson CPU/RAM impact under the real workload before describing the system as meeting a timing target.
