The JBL Go 4 is a good fit if your priority is a lightweight Bluetooth speaker you can slip into a bag or pocket and take outdoors. Its compact size, IP67 rating and simple Bluetooth playback make it convenient for personal listening; the tradeoff is limited bass, output and stereo scale. It works best as a portable companion, not as a substitute for a larger speaker when you want room-filling sound.

How does the Go 4 sound?
The Go 4’s sound is the expected compromise of a very small enclosure: it is convenient to carry, but it cannot produce the bass depth or broad, powerful sound of a larger portable speaker. SoundGuys describes its stock presentation as mid-heavy with limited low end. What Hi-Fi? praises its coherent presentation while also noting size-related sonic limitations. Those assessments point to the same practical distinction: it can make music clear and enjoyable at close range, but it is not the choice for deep bass or filling a large space.
JBL lists a 90 Hz–20 kHz dynamic frequency-response range. That specification describes a range, not how strongly or evenly the speaker reproduces every frequency; it does not cancel the physical limits of the small cabinet.

Battery life and Playtime Boost
JBL claims up to seven hours of music playback, with up to two additional hours from Playtime Boost. Actual runtime varies with use and EQ settings, according to SoundGuys’ review. The extra-time mode has a sound tradeoff: SoundGuys reports that Playtime Boost bypasses EQ and removes low frequencies. Use it when extending playback matters more than bass or your chosen EQ, rather than treating the added hours as free runtime with identical sound.
Is the JBL Go 4 waterproof?
JBL rates the Go 4 IP67 and describes it as waterproof and dustproof. The rating makes it suitable for outdoor use around water and dust, but it is not a promise that the speaker is indestructible or immune to damage in every environment. JBL’s product page says, “The JBL Go 4’s IP67 waterproof and dustproof rating ensures this portable speaker can handle almost any environment, from a poolside party to a seaside picnic.” That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent durability test.
Pairing, connections and call support
Can you connect two JBL Go 4 speakers?
Yes. JBL promotes pairing two Go 4 units for stereo playback. For multiple compatible JBL speakers, the Go 4 also supports Auracast. SoundGuys reports that Auracast multi-speaker playback is mono and resets EQ, so it should not be confused with the stereo pairing option.

Compatibility matters if you already own an older model: RTINGS cautions that the Go 4 is not backward-compatible with the previous-generation Go 3 pairing setup. Check your existing speaker’s model and pairing method before buying a second unit for a multi-speaker system.
Does the JBL Go 4 have AUX input?
No. SoundGuys says the Go 4 has no AUX input; Bluetooth is its audio connection. JBL lists Bluetooth 5.3, multipoint and Auracast support.
Can you use the Go 4 while charging?
SoundGuys’ FAQ says it can be used while charging. JBL lists a USB Type-C cable in the box, along with a quick-start guide, warranty card and safety sheet.

Portability and everyday use
At 0.19 kg and 9.4 × 7.8 × 4.2 cm, the Go 4 is designed to be easy to carry. Its integrated loop gives you a way to attach or hold it, but it does not offer the carabiner attachment of JBL’s Clip 5. If secure clipping to a bag or strap is more important than fitting the speaker into a pocket, that distinction may matter more than the Go 4’s smaller body.

| Priority | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Smaller, easier pocket carry | JBL Go 4 | RTINGS describes it as smaller and easier to pocket than the Clip 5. |
| Built-in attachment | JBL Clip 5 | It has a built-in clip; the Go 4 has an integrated loop. |
| Somewhat better bass extension | JBL Clip 5 | RTINGS says it extends somewhat lower in the bass. |
| Longer battery life | Compare your priorities and current model information | The available comparison does not establish a complete current battery-life comparison. |
Choose based on how you will carry and listen: pocketability favors the Go 4, while the Clip 5’s clip and somewhat better bass extension may suit other uses. For fuller bass or substantially larger sound, consider a larger speaker rather than expecting either tiny model to behave like one.

- LEGENDARY JBL SOUND: Big loud sound from a speaker that fits in your palm—seriously. The JBL Go 5 packs deep, rich bass and crystal-clear detail into ultra-portable audio that punches well above its pocket-sized weight.
- AMBIENT EDGE LIGHTING: Set the mood with a soft ambient glow around the edges. Pick from selectable light themes and get visual cues for power, pairing, and battery—portable speakers have never looked this good in the dark.
- IP68 WATERPROOF & DROP-PROOF: Beach days, surprise rain, clumsy hands—no problem. This waterproof speaker is dustproof, weatherproof, and tough enough to shrug off drops. Take it anywhere and never sweat the what-ifs.
- 10-HOUR BATTERY: Keep the portable audio going for up to 8 hours, then squeeze out 2 more with Playtime Boost—so the soundtrack to your day runs from morning coffee to last call.
- EASY STEREO PAIRING: Bump two Go 5 bluetooth speakers together and AirTouch instantly links them into true left-right stereo. Or connect multiple JBL Auracast-enabled speakers wirelessly for an even wider, more immersive sound.
Who should buy the JBL Go 4?
- Consider it if you want a small, light Bluetooth speaker for personal listening, casual travel and outdoor use.
- Look elsewhere if deep bass, high output, phone-call support, wired audio input or a secure built-in carabiner is important.
- Check compatibility first if you plan to pair it with a Go 3 or other JBL speakers, since stereo pairing and Auracast have different behavior and compatibility limits.
