- Community reports: Check other users on X (Twitter), Reddit, or TikTok-focused forums for matching symptoms.
Run a quick “control test”
Use one clean comparison to reduce guesswork.
- Ask: can TikTok work on any network (e.g., switch from Wi‑Fi to mobile data)?
- Ask: does TikTok work on another device using your same account?
- Ask: do you see the same failure when you open TikTok in a browser?

- Toggle Airplane Mode for 10 seconds, then turn it off.
- Switch networks: Wi‑Fi to mobile data (or the reverse).
- Update the app: Confirm you’re on a current version in the App Store or Google Play.
- Clear browser cache (web only) if TikTok loads incorrectly in a browser.
Troubleshoot by device and platform
Do the least disruptive steps first. If the outage is widespread, many actions won’t help—but you’ll still isolate whether it’s your network, account session, or the app itself.
iPhone and iPad
Start with session resets and network switching. Then check app updates.
- Close TikTok completely: swipe it away from the App Switcher, then reopen.
- Toggle Airplane Mode: turn it on for 10 seconds, then off.
- Switch networks: try TikTok on cellular data, then back on Wi‑Fi.
- Check iOS and TikTok updates:
- Open the App Store and confirm TikTok is updated.
- Go to Settings > General > Software Update to ensure iOS is current.
- Reset network settings (only if needed): Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Android phones and tablets
Android typically needs fewer steps, but clearing caches and switching networks can quickly confirm whether the problem is local.

- Clear site data for TikTok.com (cookies and cache).
- Try another browser (e.g., Chrome, Safari, Firefox) to rule out browser-specific issues.
- Check if the error persists while logged out (some outages affect authenticated sessions differently).
Wi‑Fi vs mobile data checks
If TikTok behaves differently depending on connectivity, the root cause may be DNS, routing, or a local ISP issue rather than a global outage.
- Turn off Wi‑Fi and open TikTok on mobile data.
- Re-enable Wi‑Fi and retest the same actions (open profile, refresh For You, play a video).
- If mobile data works but Wi‑Fi doesn’t, you can try restarting your router or switching DNS settings on your phone (only if you’re comfortable—don’t do it blindly).
What NOT to do during a live outage
When TikTok is down on the server side, many “fixes” only add friction. Avoid these until you confirm recovery.
- Don’t spam sign-in attempts: repeated failures can lock sessions or trigger additional verification.
- Don’t keep reinstalling: reinstallation won’t fix infrastructure downtime.
- Don’t disable security for the sake of it (VPN off, firewall off, etc.) unless you’re testing one controlled change.

Watch for these signals: error rate dropping, videos starting to play, likes/comments returning, and uploads completing normally. If you’re tracking downtime, note the time window you started seeing problems and what actions failed.

- Device model (e.g., iPhone 14, Samsung Galaxy S21) and OS version.
- App version (from the app’s settings/about screen or store listing).
- Network type (Wi‑Fi vs mobile data) and approximate location/region (city or country is enough).
- Time and steps: what you tried (open For You, refresh, search, upload), plus the timestamp.
If you can reproduce the failure consistently after you confirm the outage is resolved, that’s the best time to escalate.

Is TikTok actually down, or is it just my app?
If you see multiple outage reports and the issue matches across Wi‑Fi vs mobile data and across devices/browsers, it’s likely an outage. If only one device or one network fails, it’s more likely local.

Will my drafts or scheduled uploads be lost?
During outages, uploads may fail to complete, but existing drafts typically remain until you successfully submit or the app clears local state. If a scheduled upload didn’t go out, it usually resumes once service stabilizes.
Does clearing cache help during a TikTok outage?
Sometimes, but it won’t fix server-side downtime. Cache clearing is mainly useful for isolating app-session issues once you suspect the outage has partially resolved.
Why does TikTok load on browser but not the app?
