Isaac Heeney won the Sydney Swans’ 2026 Bob Skilton Medal, the club’s champion award, after polling 431 points across 20 matches. It is his third consecutive win. Absent from the October 1 awards ceremony after a club suspension, Heeney sent a video message apologizing to his teammates and saying he could not wait to return to training with the group next season.
Heeney’s third straight Bob Skilton Medal
The Swans held their AFL Awards at Sydney Town Hall on Thursday, October 1, 2026. The formal name for the club’s best-and-fairest honor is the Bob Skilton Medal. The coaching panel determines the award, according to the Sydney Swans’ awards report.
Heeney finished ahead of Brodie Grundy and Charlie Curnow. The Swans reported the totals as points; AFL.com.au also described them as votes. The top three totals match in both reports.
| Place | Player | 2026 total |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Isaac Heeney | 431 points |
| 2 | Brodie Grundy | 400 points |
| 3 | Charlie Curnow | 398 points |
The win extends Heeney’s run to three in a row: he first won the medal in 2024, retained it in 2025 and won again in 2026, according to AFL.com.au and the Swans’ historical award-winners list.

Why Heeney missed awards night
Heeney was one of five Swans players suspended after round 23 for breaching club behavioural standards. The other suspended players were Nick Blakey, Riley Bice, James Jordon and Chad Warner, according to AFL.com.au. The club’s sanction followed late-night partying after an August 16 match, ABC News reported.
ABC separately reported that police were investigating an allegation of sexual assault connected with the same night. As of the outlet’s October 1–2 report, no charges had been laid. ABC expressly said it was not suggesting wrongdoing by the suspended players. The club suspension and the police investigation are separate matters; the available reporting does not establish guilt or a police finding.

The club kept the players eligible for the award because votes had already been cast during the season. Swans chair Andrew Pridham told ABC that removing them retrospectively would not be appropriate, saying the medals recognized “on-field performance across the season.” He also said eligibility was not an endorsement of conduct.
