WooCommerce’s core software is free to download and use, with no monthly platform subscription or revenue share listed on its pricing page. But running a live store can still cost money for hosting, payment processing, development, optional extensions and other services. The distinction is simple: the software can be free even when the store is not.
Figures below reflect WooCommerce’s pricing information verified on October 7, 2026. They are planning examples, not a quote for a particular merchant; costs and payment options vary by store and location.

What does “free” mean for WooCommerce?
WooCommerce describes its core platform as free, with no monthly subscription and 0% revenue share. That means WooCommerce does not charge a platform subscription simply for using its core software. It does not mean that every service needed to operate a store is free. WooCommerce’s pricing page separates the platform from other possible costs.
What costs can a WooCommerce store have?
WooCommerce’s published ranges offer a starting point for planning, but they are illustrative rather than a universal estimate. The actual total depends on the store’s needs and the services it chooses.
#1 Best Overall
| Cost category | What WooCommerce says | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Core platform | Free, with no monthly subscription and 0% revenue share | This covers the core platform, not the separate costs of operating a store. |
| Hosting | $25–$350 per month for most stores, as an illustrative range | Compare the full plan cost against traffic, performance requirements and support needs. |
| Extensions | $29–$299 per year per extension, as an illustrative range; the marketplace also lists free products | Pay only for functions you need, and check each listing’s current price, updates and support terms. |
| Payment processing | WooCommerce says it adds no transaction fee; payment providers may charge their own fees. | Rates, availability and other charges vary by country, payment method and provider. |
| Development and other services | WooCommerce’s cost calculator includes development; its sample budgets also include maintenance and third-party services. | Costs depend on the build, ongoing work and any services the store requires. |
These ranges and categories come from WooCommerce’s vendor-published pricing information. They should not be read as independent market averages.
Does WooCommerce charge transaction fees?
WooCommerce says it does not add its own transaction fee. A payment processor can still charge for processing a sale, so “no WooCommerce transaction fee” does not mean payment processing is free. Fees and availability depend on the provider, merchant location and payment type. WooCommerce’s payment-gateway documentation notes that gateway costs may include the plugin, signup fees, monthly or yearly subscriptions and transaction fees. It also recommends considering cost, location, security, subscription support and in-person payment support when selecting a gateway.

A US-specific WooPayments example
WooCommerce lists a starting rate of 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction for US-issued cards for WooPayments. This is a United States-specific example, not a rate that applies to all countries, cards or payment providers. Check current terms for the merchant’s location and payment mix. WooPayments pricing

How to estimate the total cost for your store
- Start with the platform fee. WooCommerce lists the core platform at $0 per month, with no revenue share.
- Choose a hosting plan. Use the vendor’s $25–$350 monthly range for most stores only as an initial planning reference; compare plans against your store’s expected traffic and requirements.
- List the functions you actually need. Check whether a free marketplace extension meets each need before budgeting for a paid one. WooCommerce’s published paid-extension range is $29–$299 per year per extension; confirm each current listing price.
- Estimate payment costs for your market. Check the provider’s rates and any signup, subscription or gateway-plugin costs for your country and payment methods.
- Account for implementation and upkeep. Include development, maintenance and any third-party services that your setup requires.
- Use the cost calculator as an input-based estimate. WooCommerce’s calculator covers platform and hosting, transactions, development and extensions; it asks for business and store information, so it is not an estimate without those inputs. WooCommerce cost calculator
Why there is no single WooCommerce store price
A small store using basic features and a more complex business with custom development, subscriptions or additional services do not have the same cost profile. WooCommerce’s pricing page shows merchant examples, including a European boutique with $2 million in annual revenue and a US subscription coffee brand with $300 million in annual revenue. These are company-published illustrations, not independent studies or typical-store averages. The examples show why a single headline total would be misleading: the estimate depends on the business and its requirements. WooCommerce pricing examples
