That means there is no verified sequel plot, release window, platform, or character roster to report. It does not mean a sequel has been cancelled or ruled out. The confirmed story belongs to Insomniac’s current Marvel’s Wolverine, an original Logan adventure centered on Team X—not an announced X-Men team game.
Is there a sequel to the Wolverine game?
As of October 4, 2026, the official sources cited here do not announce a sequel to Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine. They describe the current game and its story, not a follow-up. Any claim about a sequel’s characters, story, timing, or platforms should therefore be treated as unconfirmed.

The game that is confirmed is a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure developed by Insomniac Games with Marvel Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment. Sony identifies it as available worldwide exclusively on PlayStation 5. PlayStation’s game page and PlayStation Blog describe the current title; neither establishes a sequel.
Will there be an X-Men game after Wolverine?
There is no confirmed announcement of an X-Men game after Marvel’s Wolverine in the official material covered here. The game’s confirmed mutant story is about Team X and the threat facing mutants; that is not evidence of a future X-Men project, one way or the other.
#1 Best Overall
- Marvel’s Wolverine is a new action-packed adventure from Insomniac Games
- Play as Wolverine and Ravage enemies with explosive brutality and unleash razor-sharp adamantium claws to deploy fast, fluid attacks and overcome impossible odds
- An Original, Emotionally Charged Story. Beneath Wolverine’s gruff exterior and violent temperament is a man fighting for a cause greater than himself
- A Global, Adrenaline-Fueled Journey where you slice into enemies across detailed locales such as the frosted Canadian Wilderness, the narrow streets of Tokyo, and the high and low districts of the island nation of Madripoor
Insomniac narrative director Walt Williams put the distinction plainly in a D23 interview: “In Marvel’s Wolverine, there are no X-Men.” He describes the current game, not what a future game might include. Sony presents this as an original interpretation focused on Logan’s search for answers about his past, rather than a retelling advertised as an X-Men team adventure. Its named settings include the Canadian wilderness, Tokyo, and Madripoor.
Which characters are confirmed in Marvel’s Wolverine?
The official story material supports a specific roster and conflict for this game. It should not be read as a list of characters for an unannounced sequel.

These details come from PlayStation Blog story materials and the official PlayStation channel. They confirm characters for the current game only; they do not confirm that any of them will appear in a sequel.
Is Jean Grey in Marvel’s Wolverine?
Yes. PlayStation’s official gameplay and story material names Jean Grey, describes her as a powerful telekinetic, and identifies her as an emerging leader among captured mutants. That makes her a confirmed character in this game, not a clue to an unannounced sequel roster.

What is Team X?
In Williams’s explanation, Team X is a mutant strike force founded by Nathaniel Essex. The game’s setup has Logan returning to the group three years after leaving it; his former teammates resent that he disappeared without explaining why. Williams also said, “Wolverine has been a member of Team X as far back as he can remember—literally.”
That framing matters because Team X is the mutant group at the center of this game’s story. It does not make the game an X-Men team game: Williams’s statement about this title is explicit, and it should not be extended into a claim about future plans.

Do I need to read the Wolverine prequel comic?
No. The official prequel comic is optional background, not a stated requirement to follow the game. Written by narrative director Walt Williams with art by Luke Ross, it covers events leading into the game and Logan’s strained relationship with Team X. PlayStation says it can be read through Marvel Unlimited; check the service for current access terms.

Williams described the game as “a wholly original story that would surprise even the most hardcore Wolverine fan.” That is his description of the story, not a promise about a sequel.
