It can be, but only if The X Subscription replaces subscriptions you would genuinely keep and you will use its Grok, Cursor and X benefits. It is a weak deal when your current coding plan already meets your needs, you do not use X or Grok, or your Cursor workflow depends heavily on third-party models that are outside the bundle’s included usage pool.
X announced The X Subscription on October 2, 2026. The announcement lists monthly prices of $8 for Plus, $30 for Premium, $100 for Super and $200 for Ultra. Those are announcement prices, not a permanent price guarantee; check the live plan page before changing billing.

What The X Subscription actually bundles
The X Subscription combines access to Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and benefits on X. The exact allowances differ by tier, but the important point for an existing AI-coding subscriber is that this is a multi-service subscription rather than a coding-only replacement.
| Tier | Monthly price listed by xAI | What the announcement establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Plus | $8 per month | Part of the announced X Subscription range combining Grok, Cursor and X benefits |
| Premium | $30 per month | xAI describes it as combining SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+ |
| Super | $100 per month | Part of the announced X Subscription range combining Grok, Cursor and X benefits |
| Ultra | $200 per month | Part of the announced X Subscription range combining Grok, Cursor and X benefits |
xAI says Premium replaces a previous combined price of $90 per month for SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+. That is a vendor comparison. It does not mean every customer bought all three products, received identical benefits, or can cancel all of their existing services.
#1 Best Overall
xAI also says, “Each X Subscription plan includes at least twice as much coding usage with our models as the comparable Cursor plan.” Treat that as xAI’s claim, not as an independent benchmark of coding quality, latency or completion accuracy.
The first test: how much spending can you really cancel?
The bundle’s value is based on avoidable spending, not the advertised sum of every standalone product. Make a list of the services you currently pay for and mark each one as cancelable, required or uncertain after a switch.
- Cancelable: a subscription whose coding, AI or social benefits would be adequately replaced by the tier you are considering.
- Required: a service you still need because it supplies a model, quota, integration or account that the bundle does not provide.
- Uncertain: a service you might keep until you have confirmed limits, migration details and your real usage.
Your relevant comparison is the X tier’s monthly charge against the subscriptions in the first category, plus any services that remain in the second. If only one small part of a larger plan is replaced, use the amount you would actually stop paying rather than the provider’s headline price for an entire product family.

- Write down the current monthly total for coding tools, AI assistants and X services.
- Remove subscriptions you would definitely keep, including any separate model access that Cursor does not include.
- Choose the X tier that appears to cover your required coding volume and non-coding benefits.
- Subtract the X price from the monthly amount you would cancel. A positive result is potential savings; a negative result means you are paying more for features you may not use.
- Repeat the calculation using a conservative usage estimate. A plan that works only when you consume every allowance is riskier than one that covers your normal month with room to spare.
Shared usage changes the economics
X’s documentation says Grok and Cursor draw from a shared weekly included-usage pool. Asking Grok for more work therefore reduces the allowance available to Cursor during that period, and intensive Cursor use leaves less capacity for Grok.
Rank #2
This matters when you see two services listed together and assume each has a separate quota. Track your work by week, not only by month: a burst of agent-heavy coding early in the week can affect both products until the allowance resets.
Third-party models are a separate consideration
X says third-party models used inside Cursor, including Claude and GPT models, are not included in the plan’s pool. If your projects depend on those models, the bundle does not automatically replace the access you already pay for. Keep the separate model subscription in your “required” column unless the provider confirms another arrangement for your account.
That limitation is especially important for developers who switch models by task: one model for repository navigation, another for tests, and a third for long-form refactoring. The bundle may still reduce the cost of Grok and Cursor’s own models, but it should not be presented as unlimited coverage for every model selectable in Cursor.

How much agent work do you perform?
Estimate your normal week in terms of coding-agent sessions, large repository operations, test generation and debugging loops. The relevant question is whether the included allowance lasts through your busiest ordinary week, not whether it survives a light week.
Rank #3
xAI’s “at least twice” usage comparison may look compelling, but it is measured against a comparable Cursor plan and is not a promise of twice the output, speed or quality. Usage units and model behavior can differ, so do not convert that statement into a performance guarantee.
Do you need a particular model?
List the models your projects require and separate first-party models in the bundle from third-party models in Cursor. If a team standard, security review or code-quality process depends on a specific external model, preserve that access in your cost calculation.
How much do you use Grok outside coding?
The bundle is easier to justify when Grok has a role in research, writing, analysis or other daily work. If you would open Grok only to test the service and spend nearly all of your time in another coding tool, its inclusion has little practical value.

Where a separate coding subscription still fits
Claude Code is one example of a separate coding-focused subscription. Anthropic’s official page says Claude Code is included in its Pro plan and offers monthly and annual options. Those terms can change, and Claude Code should not be assumed to be interchangeable with Cursor or with the X bundle.
The same rule applies to any other coding service: compare the workflows you rely on, not the product names. Check repository context handling, supported models, team controls, privacy requirements, editor integration and the amount of work permitted before deciding that one subscription can replace another.
Who is most likely to benefit
- Existing users of several included services: You already pay for a Cursor-related plan, Grok access and X Premium benefits, and the new tier genuinely lets you cancel more than one bill.
- Users who value both coding and general AI: You will use Grok regularly as well as Cursor, so the shared pool serves two established workflows rather than adding an unused app.
- Light or moderate first-party-model users: Your normal coding volume fits inside the included allowance and you do not rely on excluded third-party models for most tasks.
- People willing to monitor a weekly quota: You understand that Grok and Cursor consume the same pool and can adjust usage when approaching the limit.
Who should probably keep separate subscriptions
- Developers already satisfied with one coding plan: If your current tool meets your quota, model and integration needs, adding a bundle may increase spending without improving your workflow.
- Third-party-model specialists: If Claude, GPT or another external model does most of your work in Cursor, you will still need separate access according to X’s documentation.
- People who do not use X or Grok: Paying for connected social and general-AI features you will not open weakens the bundle’s value.
- Heavy, spiky users: A shared weekly pool can be depleted by a concentrated coding sprint, leaving less capacity for Grok or later Cursor sessions.
- Teams with fixed procurement or security rules: A personal bundle may not satisfy organizational requirements for administration, data handling or approved model access.
Switching existing accounts without an accidental charge
Switching is optional. X says existing plans, prices and features continue unless customers change or cancel them. Do not cancel a current service until you have confirmed that the new account is eligible, the intended benefits appear and your billing route is understood.

- Open X’s account-unification guidance and identify your existing Cursor, Grok and X subscriptions.
- Check which email addresses or account identities are connected and whether the services are eligible to combine.
- Record the current renewal date, price and billing provider for every subscription.
- Review the new tier’s allowance and model coverage before confirming a change.
- After activation, verify that the expected Cursor, Grok and X benefits are visible, then cancel only the subscriptions the new plan actually replaces.
App-store billing can change the outcome
X’s pricing documentation says an Apple App Store Cursor subscription is not canceled or refunded merely by switching through X. If Cursor is billed by Apple, manage that subscription through the Apple account and check its renewal terms separately. The same principle applies to any service purchased through a third-party storefront: the account that receives the bundle and the account that collects payment may be different.
Best Value
Existing X Premium customers
X’s help FAQ says existing Premium subscribers keep their current plan, price and features until they choose to switch. A paid X Subscription also places Premium benefits on the connected X account. Compare the benefits and renewal terms before moving, rather than assuming an automatic conversion.
A decision checklist before you subscribe
- Have you identified the exact subscriptions you would cancel?
- Does your normal and peak weekly coding use fit within the shared Grok-Cursor allowance?
- Which of your Cursor models are third-party and therefore outside the included pool?
- Would you continue paying for a separate model, editor or team service?
- Will you use Grok and X Premium benefits often enough to matter?
- Is your current subscription billed on the web, through Apple or through another app store?
- Have you checked the live price, allowance and eligibility for your account?
- Can you verify the new benefits before canceling an existing plan?
Bottom line
The X Subscription is worth considering when it replaces multiple bills you already intend to keep and its Grok, Cursor and X features match your real habits. Premium’s advertised $30 price is notably below xAI’s stated former $90 combined price for SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+, but that comparison applies only when you would otherwise buy all three and value their included features.
For everyone else, calculate the cancellable portion of your current spending, preserve access to excluded third-party models, and account for the shared weekly usage pool. If the bundle does not replace a subscription you would actually cancel, its headline discount is not your saving.
