What “not removable” means on the Galaxy S20
You cannot take the S20’s battery out by removing a back cover or opening a latch, as you could with phones designed for user-swappable batteries. Samsung’s US support specifications for the unlocked Galaxy S20 5G explicitly say “Removable: No.” That listing applies to the US unlocked model; regional variants may have different support pages, so check the exact model if you need variant-specific documentation. Can the Galaxy S20 battery be replaced?
Yes, as a repair. The battery is inside the handset and held in place with strong adhesive. Replacing it involves opening the phone, disconnecting and removing the battery, then fitting replacement adhesive. iFixit’s Galaxy S20 battery replacement guide documents the process; it is not an ordinary battery swap.
Samsung France also lists an English repair guide for the European SM-G981B Galaxy S20 5G. That confirms repair documentation exists for that variant, but it does not establish whether Samsung or another provider currently offers service in your location. Should you try replacing it yourself?
Opening the phone calls for disassembly tools and heat to loosen the rear-cover adhesive. iFixit advises powering off and unplugging the phone, discharging the battery below 25% before disassembly, and not heating the device if the battery is swollen. It also cautions that excess heat can damage the display or battery. These are precautions in a third-party repair guide, not a claim that Samsung recommends consumer self-repair.
If you are not experienced with phone repairs, arrange professional service rather than treating the battery as a simple removable part. If you do consider DIY repair, verify that the replacement battery and adhesive fit your exact Galaxy S20 model variant.

Galaxy S20 battery capacity
Samsung lists the Galaxy S20 battery as 4,000 mAh typical capacity and 3,880 mAh rated (minimum) capacity. These are different measures: Samsung describes typical capacity as an estimate based on third-party laboratory testing, while 3,880 mAh is the rated minimum.
