It can be, if you can buy it near NVIDIA’s listed $549 starting price and value DLSS 4’s supported features. For conventional 1440p rendering, though, TechSpot’s 16-game test found the RTX 5070 only 1% faster on average than the RTX 4070 Super. That makes price, the card you’re upgrading from, and your interest in Multi Frame Generation more important than the name of the new generation alone.
How strong is the RTX 5070 for 1440p gaming?
The clearest independent comparison in the available evidence is against the RTX 4070 Super: TechSpot’s 2025 review found the RTX 5070 averaged 1% faster across its 16-game 1440p suite. That is a result for those games and test conditions, not a promise about every title. It indicates that the two cards are close in conventional raster performance in that suite, rather than showing a large upgrade.

NVIDIA’s March 5, 2025 launch article claimed up to a 20% improvement in traditional raster performance over its previous-generation comparison. That is NVIDIA’s launch claim; it is not interchangeable with TechSpot’s independent result or a universal performance guarantee. The practical takeaway is to judge the 5070 by independent results for the games you play, not by a broad generation-level claim.

What does DLSS 4 add?
NVIDIA lists DLSS 4 support, including Multi Frame Generation. These features are distinct from the card’s native or conventional raster performance: their benefits depend on game support and on whether you prefer generated frames. They can be part of the reason to choose the RTX 5070, but they do not change what the TechSpot 1440p raster comparison measured.
#1 Best Overall
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Powered by GeForce RTX 5070
- Integrated with 12GB GDDR7 192bit memory interface
- PCIe 5.0
- NVIDIA SFF ready
If DLSS 4 is a priority, check that the specific games you play support the relevant feature and decide whether its output suits your preferences. If you mainly compare cards by conventional rendering performance, focus on benchmarks for those games and on the price difference between available models.
Does 12 GB of memory make sense for your plans?
The RTX 5070 has 12 GB of GDDR7 on a 192-bit interface, according to NVIDIA’s specifications. Memory capacity is worth weighing if you play demanding games or plan to keep a card for a long time. The available evidence does not establish a universal point at which 12 GB becomes insufficient, so it would be misleading to treat that capacity as either a guaranteed problem or a guarantee against future limits.
What to check before buying a specific card
- Price: NVIDIA lists a $549 starting price on its product page, accessed October 3, 2026. This is a listed starting price, not confirmation of local availability or the price of a particular retailer’s model. Compare the actual price you can pay with alternatives in your market.
- Power: NVIDIA lists 250 W total graphics power and recommends a 650 W system power supply for a reference configuration. It says power requirements vary by system. Check the requirements for the exact card model and your full system before deciding whether your PSU is suitable.
- Fit: NVIDIA lists a 242 mm length and two-slot form factor for the Founders Edition, but add-in-card specifications vary by manufacturer. Confirm the exact card’s dimensions against your case and account for its cooling and airflow needs.
These figures come from NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 Family specifications. Its March 5, 2025 launch article describes NVIDIA’s launch claims and DLSS 4 framing; TechSpot’s RTX 5070 review reports the 16-game comparison.

Consider it if you’re upgrading from a much older card
If your current GPU is substantially older, the RTX 5070 may be worth considering for its overall feature set, provided the price and the specific game benchmarks work for you. The available comparison does not quantify performance against older cards, so check results for your existing GPU and the games you play before treating this as a guaranteed uplift.
Be cautious if you already own an RTX 4070 Super
TechSpot’s test showed only a 1% average 1440p raster lead for the RTX 5070 over the RTX 4070 Super. An upgrade is difficult to justify on that result alone; weigh the actual cost and whether DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation is valuable to you.
Use your local price as the deciding factor
At or near NVIDIA’s listed $549 starting price, the RTX 5070 is a plausible 1440p option for a buyer who wants its feature set. If the card available to you costs substantially more, compare exact models and current alternatives rather than assuming the official starting price reflects your market.
