Yes—later breakage has still been reported. A Best Buy reviewer said one Quest 2 Elite Strap cracked after 14 months of light use, but that single account cannot show how often straps fail today. Meta (then Facebook) attributed some early failures to a manufacturing processing inconsistency in 2020 and announced two-year replacement coverage at the time. Neither that historical announcement nor one later review establishes a current failure rate or guarantees a replacement for every owner.
What is known about Elite Strap breakage?
Reports of cracking appeared soon after the Quest 2 Elite Strap launched. In December 2020, Facebook said it had investigated customer quality complaints and identified a processing inconsistency affecting some early units. The statement described the affected reports as a “small number,” but that phrase is company wording—not a published failure-rate statistic. UploadVR reported the announcement.

Breakage was also reported later. One Best Buy reviewer said the right arm of their strap cracked after 14 months of light use. That account documents an individual experience, not a representative sample. Retail reviews do not provide the number of straps in use or a reliable way to calculate the share that break. Can we tell how common cracking is now?
No. The available accounts do not establish a current, representative breakage rate. The 2020 manufacturing explanation concerns some early units; the later retail review shows that at least one subsequent breakage complaint exists. Neither proves that all straps—or current production—share the same problem, and neither proves the issue has been fully resolved.

Does Meta still replace a broken strap?
Do not assume the December 2020 two-year replacement announcement applies to every strap today. At the time, Facebook said affected owners should contact Oculus Support about a refund or replacement. That was historical guidance, not a universal current guarantee. UploadVR’s report of the initial response also quoted a Facebook spokesperson saying the company was aware of cracking or breaking reports and was investigating.
A Meta Store complaint response dated September 8, 2026, illustrates why the details of a purchase matter: in that customer’s case, Meta said Warranty Plus covered the Quest 2 and accessories included in the original packaging, but not a separately purchased Elite Strap with Battery. - Stop relying on the cracked part to hold the headset securely. The available sources do not establish a verified self-repair method.
- Gather your purchase details. Note whether the strap is the standard Elite Strap or the Elite Strap with Battery, when and where it was bought, and whether it came in the headset’s original package or was purchased separately.
- Contact Meta support and ask about your specific coverage. Eligibility may depend on the product, purchase date, region, and applicable warranty or service plan. Do not treat the 2020 announcement as a promise of a free replacement.
- If considering a replacement, verify the listing before buying. Confirm Quest 2 compatibility, whether a battery is included, the seller, and return terms. The sources cited here do not verify a particular alternative strap or its durability.

When comparing options, check Quest 2 compatibility, whether the strap has an integrated battery, fit and comfort feedback, return terms, and seller support.
