Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe Nothing Phone (3) is worth considering if distinctive design and a playful software character matter more to you than class-leading speed or consistently dependable camera results. Its semi-transparent-style back, staggered cameras and circular Glyph Matrix make it stand out; the Matrix’s everyday usefulness, however, depends on whether you enjoy interacting with a small display on the back of your phone.
What makes the Phone (3)’s design different?
The rear combines a semi-transparent visual treatment, visible blocks beneath the glass, an asymmetric camera layout and a circular monochrome Glyph Matrix. The visual effect is deliberate: the panels underneath have different colors and textures, rather than exposing the phone’s actual internals. Ars Technica found the look eye-catching while noting that taste is subjective; WIRED described it as fresh and unique.

The design is more than a different arrangement of cameras, but it is still an aesthetic choice. If you want a phone that looks unlike the usual glass slab, the Phone (3) makes a clear case for itself. If you prefer an understated finish, its conspicuous rear treatment may be a drawback rather than a benefit.

Does the Glyph Matrix add practical value?
The circular rear display can show selected notifications and status cues, and it supports simple tools and mini-games. That gives the design a function, but not necessarily one every owner will use often.

Reviews differ on how useful it is in normal use. WIRED’s reviewer found it more useful than expected. Ars Technica and TechCrunch were less convinced: the display is limited, and for message details you still need to turn the phone around. Ars Technica characterized it as a gimmick. The difference comes down partly to what you want from it: a playful interaction and quick cues, or a convenient way to use your phone without extra gestures.
What are the main compromises?
Performance is below the very fastest tier
The Phone (3) uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Ars Technica describes it as more modest than Qualcomm’s flagship processor and says competing phones can be faster. The Guardian also noted that better-performing handsets were available around the Phone (3)’s review-era price. Those are reviewers’ comparisons, not results from a single controlled head-to-head test, but they matter if maximum performance is a priority.

The review-era hardware is otherwise substantial: Ars Technica lists a 6.67-inch 120Hz OLED display, 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. The phone weighs 218g. These are specifications reported in 2025, not a statement about current price or availability.
Camera performance can be inconsistent
Ars Technica reported shutter lag and occasional overprocessing, particularly with moving subjects and in low light. The Guardian also called the camera inconsistent. These criticisms do not mean every photo will disappoint, but they do make the camera a less reliable selling point if you often shoot action, children, pets or dimly lit scenes.

Charging results depend on the setup
Ars Technica lists a 5,150mAh battery, 65W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. In The Guardian’s review, the phone lasted about 40 hours between charges under the reviewer’s reported 5G-heavy usage and charged in about 55 minutes with a USB-C adapter rated at 65W or more. Those are that reviewer’s observations, not guaranteed results for every user; the publication also said an adapter was not included in its tested package.

Price depends on market and date. Ars Technica listed a US launch price of $799 in its July 2025 review. Nothing’s UK product page currently displays £519, reduced from £699, for the 12GB/256GB configuration; that is a page price observed in 2026, and prices or stock may change. Neither figure should be treated as a universal current price.

At any local price, weigh the Phone (3) against other options on the factors that matter to you: design and build, the usefulness of rear-display features, processor performance, camera consistency, battery and charging, software support, and current local price. The available reviews do not provide a single controlled comparison covering all of those areas.

Who should buy the Nothing Phone (3)?
- It may suit you if you want a phone with an unusually distinctive look, enjoy playful interface features and do not require the fastest processor or the most dependable camera for moving subjects and low light.
- Look elsewhere if speed and camera consistency matter more than design, or you expect the rear display to replace checking the main screen for messages.
- Check before paying the price and configuration sold in your market. UK and US figures cited above are from different dates and should not be compared as though they were simultaneous prices.
In short, the design is a genuine strength, but it does not erase the trade-offs. The Phone (3) makes the most sense for someone who actively wants its visual identity and Matrix interactions—not for someone who simply wants the strongest performance or most consistent camera at the price.
