The Magic Keyboard combines a backlit keyboard, a haptic trackpad and a protective case in a laptop-like setup. It is a harder buy for occasional typing, drawing-first use, or anyone who wants to detach the keyboard and use a flexible kickstand.
What you get for the premium design
The Magic Keyboard attaches magnetically and connects through the iPad’s Smart Connector, which carries power and data without Bluetooth pairing. Its cantilever-style hinge lets you adjust the viewing angle while the iPad remains attached; it is not a detachable-keyboard case or a stand-only setup. A USB-C connector in the hinge provides pass-through charging.
Apple specifies backlit scissor keys with 1 mm of travel, a 14-key function row, and a large glass trackpad with Multi-Touch gestures and haptic feedback. The design also includes an aluminium palm rest and hinge, plus front-and-back cover protection. These features make the keyboard convenient as an integrated typing and pointing setup, rather than a general-purpose wireless keyboard. Where it works well—and where it does not
RTINGS reports good typing quality and outstanding build quality, and highlights the trackpad and function row as strengths. That combination is most useful when you regularly draft documents, answer email, or work with spreadsheets and want pointer control alongside the keyboard.

The design has practical limits. The layout is compact, without a navigation-key cluster or numpad. The keyboard has no wireless mode or multi-device pairing, and it draws power from the iPad. It is therefore best understood as an iPad Pro accessory that stays with one tablet, not as a flexible keyboard for switching among several devices. RTINGS also notes that its testing setup could not measure raw performance because its tests require a PC connection; its review should not be read as a latency or gaming-performance finding. Check compatibility before you order
Match both the keyboard’s size and generation to your iPad. The current M4/M5 Magic Keyboard family is made for the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models in those generations, not earlier iPad Pro generations. The 13-inch version has some larger keys and a larger trackpad than the 11-inch version.

- On the iPad, open Settings > General > About and check the model information.
- Choose the 11-inch or 13-inch keyboard made for that iPad Pro generation; do not assume an older iPad Pro Magic Keyboard will fit.
- For the 13-inch model, Apple lists compatibility with 13-inch iPad Pro M4 and M5 and requires iPadOS 17.4 or later. Check the specifications for the exact variant before purchase: Apple Support’s compatibility and technical details.
When another keyboard case may suit you better
The Logitech Combo Touch is worth comparing if you want the keyboard to detach or prefer a case with an adjustable kickstand. Creative Bloq describes it as a two-piece design with a detachable backlit keyboard and trackpad, a protective case, and Pencil storage; it connects through the Smart Connector. RTINGS also names the Logitech MX Keys Mini and Logitech Keys-To-Go 2 as standalone wireless alternatives. They do not provide the same integrated case-and-trackpad package, so compare what matters for your use: protection, detachability, stand flexibility, trackpad, device switching, compatibility and the current total price.

So, is it worth buying?
Buy the Magic Keyboard if you have the right M4 or M5 iPad Pro, type often, and value an integrated trackpad and protective cover enough to keep the tablet in a laptop-like configuration. If you only type now and then, prioritize drawing, or need a detachable keyboard and flexible stand, its specialized design is less compelling; a different case or separate keyboard may fit better.
Current price, stock and discounts are not established here, so check the live listing for the exact size before deciding. The value judgment ultimately depends on how often you will use the typing and pointing features, not on a claim that the accessory turns iPadOS into macOS or replaces every laptop workflow.
