Apple’s App Store history showed version 12.15 as the newest visible build at the time of retrieval, after version 12.14 on August 3 and 12.13 on July 29. Apple’s notes describe bug fixes but do not identify a launch-crash outbreak. Store versions can appear on different dates because of staged releases, device type, country and caching. A single review or emulator report cannot demonstrate a service-wide defect. Confidence in an update regression rises when independent users on different devices report the same behavior immediately after the same build, and when a newer store build or an X statement follows.
The incident many posts are recycling
In January 2020, Twitter Android version 8.28 caused immediate crashes after launch. Twitter Support acknowledged the problem on January 21 and advised Android users not to install the affected update while a fix was prepared. Contemporary guidance included disabling automatic updates, clearing app data or cache, and temporarily returning to an earlier APK. The event is documented in this Hindustan Times report.
That report is evidence of a historical Twitter failure, not proof that an August 2026 X build is crashing today. “Latest Twitter update” is also ambiguous: Android and iOS use different release numbers, and each store may deliver a build at a different time.

On iOS, App Store reviews include individual launch-crash complaints, including one associated with iOS 18, but these are user-generated reports and do not verify a current version-wide defect. The reviews are visible at Apple’s review page.

X’s official Android guidance recommends restarting, checking connectivity, clearing app data, signing in again and reinstalling. It also says to have at least 50 MB of free storage when installing. Use this sequence; menu names vary between Samsung, Pixel, Motorola, OnePlus and other phones.
- Restart the phone. This clears a temporary process or memory fault.
- Test the connection. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. Temporarily disable a VPN, ad blocker or restrictive private-DNS setting.
- Check the store listing. Open Google Play, search for X and install an available official update. Store availability can be staged.
- Clear cache, then data. A typical path is Settings → Apps → X → Storage → Clear cache. If that fails, use Clear data or Clear storage. The exact labels differ by manufacturer.
- Sign in again. Clearing data removes the local session and may reset notification or sync preferences. Keep a two-factor authentication method or backup code available.
- Reinstall from Google Play. Save any unsent drafts first; uninstalling can remove drafts and local settings.
- Use the web fallback. Open x.com in a browser while waiting for a verified app fix.
These steps come from X’s Android troubleshooting guidance; clearing data or reinstalling is recommended general remediation, not a guaranteed fix for the alleged August incident.

About Android version requirements
X’s help page contains wording that the app is available for phones “running Android 7.93.4 and above.” That number resembles an app version rather than an Android operating-system release, so it should not be treated as a definitive OS requirement. Check the compatibility result shown for your device in Google Play and install available Android system updates.

Apple’s listing says X requires iOS or iPadOS 15.0 or later. Confirm your version under Settings → General → About, then use this order:

- Restart the iPhone or iPad.
- Open the App Store, tap your account icon and check for an X update.
- Confirm that the device meets the iOS/iPadOS 15.0 requirement and has free storage.
- Delete X and reinstall it from the App Store if the crash remains. Save drafts first and ensure you can complete two-factor authentication.
- Use Safari at x.com as a temporary alternative.
- If a clean reinstall still reproduces the crash, report the device model, operating-system version, X build, exact timing and whether the browser works to X.
The compatibility requirement is listed in Apple’s X listing. These are standard iOS troubleshooting steps, not confirmation of an Apple-wide X failure.

Should you install an older APK?
Usually, no. The 2020 coverage mentioned reverting to an earlier APK, but also warned that third-party APK files may be unsafe or buggy. Unofficial packages can be modified to steal credentials, contain malware, fail device compatibility checks or prevent normal future updates. Do not use an APK mirror unless you can independently verify the publisher, signature and file integrity. For a current suspected regression, the safer fallback is X.com until an official store build or X announcement is available.
When waiting is more sensible than repeated reinstalls
Pause before making destructive changes if the same crash began immediately after a shared release and affects several unrelated phones. Check whether another account crashes on the same device, whether X.com works, and whether disabling VPN or private-DNS filtering changes the result. Emulator-only failures, such as the report in this LDPlayer discussion, do not establish a physical-phone defect.
If the app-store page offers a newer build, install that official build. If no update exists and the browser works, continue using the web version and preserve login recovery information. A browser may still fail when an account is locked, suspended or waiting for a security prompt, which is different from an app crash.

- X app version shown in the store or device settings.
- When the crash began and whether it followed an update.
- Whether it happens on Wi-Fi, mobile data, with VPNs disabled and on another account.
- Whether clearing data, reinstalling or using x.com changed the behavior.
- Any crash message, update prompt or security notice shown on screen.
This detail helps distinguish a reproducible release regression from a local configuration problem and avoids treating an isolated report as an outage.
