Not by itself. Apple lists the iPhone 14 Pro Max at 240 grams, the same listed weight as the iPhone 13 Pro Max. That makes the 14 Pro Max tied for the heaviest iPhone in this comparison—not the sole record holder. Newer Pro Max models are lighter on Apple’s published specifications.
What “heaviest iPhone” means here
This comparison uses Apple’s published weight for each released handset on its own—not a phone with a case, screen protector, wallet, cable, or retail packaging. It covers the Pro Max models from 2021 through 2025, including the latest model in the specifications compared here. Individual units and configurations may vary: Apple notes that size and weight can vary by configuration and manufacturing process (Apple iPhone 16 Pro technical specifications).

Apple’s specifications list the iPhone 13 Pro Max at 240 g and the iPhone 14 Pro Max at 240 g. Their ounce conversions differ slightly—8.46 and 8.47 ounces—but those rounded conversions do not change the matching gram figures.
The later figures come from Apple’s pages for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Pro Max, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. A separate Apple regional page lists the 17 Pro Max at 233 g, rather than 231 g. The pages do not explain the discrepancy; either figure is below 240 g.

Why the iPhone 14 Pro Max weighs 240 grams
The 14 Pro Max combines a large 6.7-inch-class Pro Max form factor with stainless-steel construction, glass, a large battery, and a multi-camera Pro system. These are plausible contributors to the handset’s overall mass, but Apple does not publish a component-by-component weight breakdown, so no precise share can be assigned to any one part. Apple’s specification identifies the 14 Pro Max’s stainless-steel design; the 13 Pro Max also uses stainless steel and shares the same listed weight.
How much lighter are the newer models?
iPhone 15 Pro Max: 19 grams lighter
At 221 g, the 15 Pro Max is 19 g below the 14 Pro Max—about 7.9% less weight using Apple’s listed figures. Apple identifies its construction as titanium, while the 14 Pro Max uses stainless steel (iPhone 15 Pro Max specifications; iPhone 14 Pro Max specifications). That material change is relevant context, but it should not be treated as a complete explanation of the difference by itself.

iPhone 16 Pro Max: 13 grams lighter
The 16 Pro Max is listed at 227 g, six grams more than the 15 Pro Max but still 13 g less than the 14 Pro Max. Apple lists a 6.9-inch display and titanium design for the 16 Pro Max (Apple specifications). The published specification does not say why it weighs more than the 15 Pro Max, so attributing the increase to a particular component would go beyond the available figures.
iPhone 17 Pro Max: 7 to 9 grams lighter
Apple’s regional specifications list the 17 Pro Max at either 231 g or 233 g, a difference of two grams between the pages. The reason is not established in those listings. Against the 14 Pro Max’s 240 g, both listed weights are lower. Apple describes the 17 Pro Max as having an aluminum unibody design (231 g listing; 233 g listing).

Does the weight matter in everyday use?
The numbers establish a difference; they cannot predict how heavy a phone will feel to a particular person. Comfort depends on more than grams, including dimensions, balance, grip, and how long the phone is held. A 19 g change may be more noticeable during one-handed use, extended reading or gaming, filming, or holding a phone above your face than during a brief check.
Accessories can also change the comparison. A protective case or wallet attachment adds weight to the bare handset, potentially outweighing the difference between generations. If you are comparing phones for comfort, compare them in the case and configuration you expect to use.

Who should think twice about the 14 Pro Max’s weight?
- People prioritizing a lighter handset: the 15, 16, and 17 Pro Max are all listed below 240 g.
- People who find large phones tiring to hold: a smaller model may be more comfortable if one-handed use or extended holding matters more than the largest display.
- People adding a substantial case or wallet: consider the combined phone-and-accessory weight rather than the bare specification.
- People choosing a Pro Max for its size and capabilities: weigh those priorities against the extra bulk and mass; the listed weight alone does not determine which phone is right for you.
