What water-resistant means for a Pixel
An IP rating describes a device’s protection under controlled testing; it is not a guarantee that you can safely use the phone underwater. Can you take a Pixel in the shower or pool?
Google says not to submerge your phone and specifically advises against taking it into a sink, shower, sauna, bathtub, swimming pool, or other body of water. For incidental exposure, such as rain or a splash, the rating is not a guarantee against damage. If you need to keep your phone near water, a waterproof phone pouch or dry bag can add a separate barrier; it does not make the Pixel itself waterproof.
Why water resistance can decline
Resistance is strongest when a device is new and intact. Google says normal wear, repairs, disassembly, or damage can diminish or eliminate water and dust resistance. A drop may compromise it even if the screen and body look undamaged. [Google Pixel hardware specifications]

- Drops: Google warns that dropping the device may cause a loss of resistance.
- Repairs or disassembly: Opening or repairing the device can affect its seals and protection.
- Age and use: Resistance is not permanent and may diminish with normal wear.
What to do if your Pixel gets wet
- Take it out of the water. Remove the phone as soon as possible.
- Turn it off. Power the device down.
- Wipe it dry. Use a soft cloth to remove surface moisture.
- Let it finish drying. Set it on a flat surface at room temperature and allow it to dry.

Does the Google warranty cover water damage?
No. Google says damage caused by accidents or external causes, including water damage, is not covered by its warranty.
