The ASICS SUPERBLAST 2 is a neutral, maximum-cushioning road shoe with an 8 mm drop and a two-foam midsole. Its design and official specifications make it a plausible option for runners seeking a cushioned shoe for varied road training, but foam claims do not establish faster times or better race results. It is also an earlier-generation model: SUPERBLAST 3 was reported available from March 1, 2026, so check local stock and current pricing before buying.
What kind of running shoe is the SUPERBLAST 2?
ASICS classifies the SUPERBLAST 2 as a road-running shoe with neutral support and maximum cushioning. Its stated heel-to-toe drop is 8 mm. Those labels describe the shoe’s intended category and geometry; they do not determine whether its ride or fit will suit a particular runner.

The midsole combines FF TURBO PLUS and FF BLAST PLUS ECO foam. ASICS describes the outsole as trampoline-inspired, and its ASICSGRIP rubber is designed for off-road terrain. Despite that grip claim, ASICS categorizes the shoe as a road shoe, not a trail model.
What do the specifications and foam claims tell you?
| Specification | What is established |
|---|---|
| Support and cushioning | Neutral support and maximum cushioning, according to ASICS UK |
| Heel drop | 8 mm, according to ASICS UK |
| Weight | ASICS UK lists 250 g / 8.8 oz without explicitly tying that listing to the US size basis. ASICS’s 2024 launch announcement gives approximately 250 g for a US men’s size 9. |
| Midsole | FF TURBO PLUS and FF BLAST PLUS ECO, according to ASICS |
| Independent heel-stack measurement | RunRepeat measured 42.8 mm; this is the reviewer’s measurement, not an official ASICS specification. |
| Launch price | $200 in the US at launch in 2024; this is historical, not a current price. |
ASICS says FF TURBO PLUS is approximately 8% lighter, 6% softer, and has 8.2% more energy return than the earlier FF BLAST TURBO foam. The company also says FF BLAST PLUS ECO contains approximately 24% bio-based material. These are manufacturer comparisons and material claims, not independent findings that the shoe makes runners faster or improves race results.

How should you think about the ride and intended use?
The published specifications point to a cushioned road shoe rather than a shoe defined by a narrow specialty: the stated category is neutral, maximum cushioning, and the midsole uses two foams. That makes long runs and general road training reasonable uses to consider, but the available evidence does not establish how the shoe performs for every pace, distance, or runner.
Ride feel, stability, and fit are personal and can vary with foot shape, running form, and preference. The cited official material does not establish a specific fit profile, durability result, or firsthand experience. Treat those as questions to resolve through a retailer’s return policy or a try-on, rather than assuming foam specifications answer them.

Is the SUPERBLAST 2 still worth considering?
It may be worth considering if you specifically want the SUPERBLAST 2 and find a size and price that work for you. The key buying caveat is its generation: T3 reported that SUPERBLAST 3 became available on March 1, 2026, making the 2 the earlier model. That does not by itself establish that the newer shoe is better for you; it does mean the SUPERBLAST 2 should not be presented as the current generation.
