Is the Alienware AW3926QW a Sharp 39-Inch OLED Ultrawide?

The Alienware AW3926QW pairs a 39-inch OLED ultrawide with 5120 × 2160 native resolution and 165 Hz refresh. Here is what the review reports—and the compromises to weigh.

The Alienware AW3926QW pairs a 39-inch, 21:9 OLED panel with a native 5120 × 2160 resolution, giving it the same number of vertical pixels as a 4K display and extra horizontal workspace. That combination is the reason a review by Matthew S. Smith describes it as unusually large without giving up clarity. Its native refresh rate is 165 Hz; reaching 330 Hz means reducing resolution to 2560 × 1080, a mode Smith found dull on a screen this size.

What the AW3926QW’s resolution means for sharpness

The AW3926QW’s 5120 × 2160 native resolution is commonly called 5K2K: it keeps 2160 vertical pixels while extending the horizontal canvas beyond a conventional 16:9 4K image. In practice, that means more room for side-by-side windows and a panoramic view in supported games, without giving up vertical pixel count.

Resolution alone does not establish how sharp text will look at a given viewing distance, and the available review does not provide a directly comparable pixel-density test against other screen sizes. Its central point is more specific: the 39-inch panel combines a large ultrawide format with 2160 vertical pixels. Smith summarized the distinction as, “Size and sharpness are the AW3926QW’s distinctive traits.”

Refresh rate: 165 Hz at full resolution, 330 Hz at reduced resolution

The monitor supports up to 165 Hz at its native 5120 × 2160 resolution. A 330 Hz mode is available at 2560 × 1080 instead, which uses half the native resolution in each dimension. Smith found that lower-resolution mode dull at this screen size. For buyers who want the sharpest image, the meaningful headline specification is therefore 165 Hz at native resolution, not 330 Hz without its resolution qualification.

What the review reports about OLED picture quality

Smith’s review describes strong color and OLED contrast. It reports 99% DCI-P3 and 93% AdobeRGB gamut coverage. These are figures reported by that review, not independently verified here.

Brightness figures from the review

  • SDR: The monitor is quoted at a maximum of 300 nits; Smith says testing confirmed that figure.
  • HDR: The quoted peak is 1,300 nits, while Smith reports measuring up to 1,011 nits.

These specifications and measurements are not a guarantee of brightness across the entire screen or in every viewing mode. The source does not provide enough detail here to make a controlled brightness comparison with other monitors.

USB-C power delivery can simplify a laptop setup by carrying video and charging over one connection, subject to the laptop’s requirements. The available review does not specify the number or exact types of downstream USB ports.

Trade-offs to consider before choosing a 39-inch screen

Desk space and ergonomics

A 39-inch 21:9 display occupies a substantial amount of desk width, so check the monitor’s physical dimensions and your available space before buying; dimensions are not provided in the available source. Smith reports that the stand can wobble when raised toward the upper end of its height range. If you regularly adjust the screen to a high position, that stability limitation matters.

Motion and refresh rate

At 165 Hz in native resolution, the AW3926QW is not as fast as some smaller ultrawide monitors, according to the review. The 330 Hz option does not preserve the full 5120 × 2160 image, so it is a compromise rather than a way to get both maximum sharpness and maximum refresh rate.

How it fits against other OLED ultrawide sizes

The useful alternatives in this category include 34-inch 3440 × 1440 OLED ultrawides and 45-inch 5K2K OLED ultrawides. The available review does not offer a controlled, like-for-like comparison of these sizes, so the distinctions below are about resolution class and screen scale—not a claim that one is categorically sharper, brighter, or better.

Who should consider the AW3926QW?

  • It may suit you if you want a wide desktop or gaming view, need 2160 vertical pixels, and value OLED contrast alongside a native refresh rate of up to 165 Hz.
  • Look closely at the trade-offs if your desk is shallow or narrow, you need the stand at its upper height range, or your priority is a refresh rate above 165 Hz while keeping native resolution.
  • Compare alternatives in person or by verified specifications if text appearance, physical fit, or brightness in your room is decisive; the review does not establish those outcomes for every setup.
