The price comparison has a dated basis; the performance claim does not. IGN’s October 6, 2026 deal coverage reported an ABS Cyclone offer at $899 and Steam Machine at $1,049, but Valve says its prices vary by location and can change. The cited sources do not include a matched gaming test proving the ABS PC is faster. There is also a configuration discrepancy: Walmart lists a Core 5 120, while IGN describes an i5-14400F system.
What the $899 ABS deal includes—and what needs checking
Walmart’s listing identifies the ABS Cyclone Aqua as a Windows 11 desktop with an Intel Core 5 120, GeForce RTX 5060 with 8GB of graphics memory, 16GB DDR4, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. See the Walmart listing for the offered configuration; price and stock can change.

IGN’s October 6, 2026 deal article instead describes the $899 system as using an Intel Core i5-14400F. Those are different processors, so do not assume the article and retailer listing refer to the same configuration. Confirm the exact SKU and its components on the retailer page before buying or comparing performance. The $899 figure is a reported limited-time deal, not a guaranteed ongoing price. What Valve has announced for Steam Machine
Valve describes Steam Machine as a compact PC gaming device running SteamOS 3. Its announced hardware includes a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 CPU with 6 cores and 12 threads, a semi-custom RDNA3 GPU with 28 compute units, 16GB of DDR5 system memory, and 8GB of GDDR6 graphics memory. Storage configurations are listed at 512GB or 2TB NVMe. These are announced specifications and may change. Valve’s specifications page

- GPU: DUAL OC GeForce RTX 5070 12GB

- RAM: Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3200
Valve says SteamOS is optimized for gaming and highlights fast suspend/resume and cloud saves. Its Steamworks overview calls the device a discrete semi-custom AMD desktop-class CPU and GPU, and says it is roughly six times more powerful than Steam Deck. That is Valve’s comparison with Steam Deck—not a measurement against the ABS desktop. Valve Steamworks overview
Is $899 actually less than Steam Machine?
In the price comparison reported by IGN on October 6, 2026, the ABS deal was $899 and Steam Machine was listed at $1,049, a $150 difference. But Valve’s limited-drop terms say prices are the ones shown on the product page, vary by location, and can change. Treat $1,049 as a dated reported figure, not a universal or necessarily current price; compare the live prices available in your region before deciding. Does the ABS PC outperform Steam Machine?
The sources establish different hardware designs, not a winner in matched games. The ABS listing specifies an NVIDIA RTX 5060 discrete graphics card; Valve’s announced system uses a semi-custom AMD RDNA3 GPU. No cited source provides a controlled comparison of these exact systems running the same games at the same resolution and settings. Without that, a claim that the ABS is more powerful—or a percentage lead—would be unproven.
NVIDIA lists RTX 5060-family features including DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, DLSS Super Resolution, ray tracing, and Reflex. Its April 15, 2025 announcement says RTX 5060 graphics cards start at $299 and makes manufacturer performance claims, including double the RTX 4060 performance in games using DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation. Those claims concern the graphics-card family and do not establish real-world frame rates for this ABS PC or a result against Steam Machine. NVIDIA’s RTX 5060 announcement

The ABS desktop is the more direct fit if you want a conventional Windows PC and the confirmed retailer configuration suits your needs. Steam Machine is designed around SteamOS and a compact, Steam-first experience. Specific game and peripheral compatibility can differ between platforms, so check the titles and devices you rely on rather than assuming the experiences are interchangeable. Valve describes its compact, living-room-friendly positioning in its Steamworks overview.
Before treating either price as a buying decision, compare the live regional prices, confirm the ABS SKU’s processor, and look for matched-game tests at your target resolution and settings. The available specifications alone do not settle which one delivers higher gaming performance.
