Star Wars Zero Company is a single-player, turn-based tactics game for players who want planned squad combat, a character-led Clone Wars story and extensive team customization—not real-time action. Reviewers praised its combat, presentation and cast, while noting that exploration is simple and some genre conventions may not suit everyone. It launched in August 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

It is built around squad management as well as individual encounters: recruit a varied crew, customize its members, and prepare for missions at the Den, the team’s base of operations. Squadmates develop skills and bonds while deployed, and those relationships can unlock combat synergies.

The story takes place in the twilight of the Clone Wars, following Hawks, a former Republic officer who leads Zero Company, an unconventional group of professionals for hire. Republic Intelligence recruits the squad to stop the Separatist-aligned Infinite Coil and its leader, Kundri Fathom, before the Shadow Plague consumes the galaxy.
#1 Best Overall
- The following games are included in the cartridge: STAR WARS Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (3.6 GB)
- STAR WARS Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (1.1 GB)
- STAR WARS Episode I Racer (254 MB)
- STAR WARS Republic Commando (2.5 GB)
- STAR WARS: The Force Unleashed (3.4 GB)
Rather than centering the story on the war’s best-known leaders, the game presents a ground-level perspective on a new squad. Lucasfilm Games Executive Producer Orion Kellogg described it as “a game in the Clone Wars, but from a new angle,” and called it Bit Reactor’s Star Wars story.
What are the standout gameplay features?
Turn-based tactical missions
Combat revolves around positioning and deciding how to use each operative’s actions. The appeal is in planning a squad’s moves and responding to mission demands, not reflex-driven shooting. If you already enjoy turn-based squad tactics, the central combat loop is likely to be the main draw.

- Build your squad from clone troopers, scoundrels, astromechs and even a Jedi—combine abilities and gear in deep Tactical-Strategy combat.
- Plan at your base, adapt on dynamic battlefields and make decisions that shape missions and replayability in this cinematic Star Wars story.
- Customise Hawks and your operatives, tailor loadouts and unlock powerful squad synergies designed for Strategy, Turn-Based and Sci-Fi fans.
Distinct operatives and customization
EA describes a crew that can include scoundrels, astromechs and a Jedi. Players can customize Hawks’ specialization and appearance, as well as squad members’ appearances, loadouts and abilities. That gives players room to shape a team around preferred approaches instead of treating the squad as a fixed roster.

The Den and story-mission exploration
The Den is the squad’s base, where players prepare between missions. PC Gamer’s reviewer also described third-person movement around the Den and exploratory interludes during some major story missions, before the game returns to its tactical view. The reviewer found the exploration simple—largely walking and interacting with points of interest for small bonuses—but said it helped the story feel more immersive.
Choices between missions
EA markets decisions and outcomes as a way to make playthroughs different. That is an official description, not proof of a particular branching structure or of how extensively choices alter the story.

What do reviewers say?
Published impressions are positive about the game’s tactical combat and presentation, with reservations around exploration, pacing and familiar genre conventions. These are individual reviewers’ judgments, not a guarantee of how every player will respond.
| Publication | Review platform | What the reviewer highlighted |
|---|---|---|
| PC Gamer | PC | Praised the tactics, story, production values, set pieces and transitions between exploration and combat. The reviewer considered exploration simple but useful for immersion. The review metadata lists no multiplayer and Steam Deck as “Not Likely.” |
| TechRadar | PC | Praised the turn-based tactics and character customization, including loadout and specialization options. The reviewer said prior experience with XCOM was not necessary to enjoy the story; that reflects the reviewer’s experience, not a promise for every newcomer. |
| Windows Central | Not stated in the cited review summary | Praised the story, characters and tactical sequences. The reviewer said players who dislike XCOM-style tactics may not be persuaded, and cited waiting for AI and tooltips or messages as friction. The reviewer also expressed a personal preference for a darker tone. |
Who is likely to enjoy it—and who may not?
- Good fit: players who enjoy turn-based squad combat, planning actions, customizing a team and following a character-led Star Wars story.
- Potential mismatch: players who want real-time action, dislike XCOM-style tactical play, or expect exploration to be as mechanically deep as the battles.
- Newcomers to tactics: TechRadar’s reviewer found the story enjoyable without prior XCOM experience, but the game’s core still depends on turn-based planning.
