It can be a good fit for families who want short, active games to play together—especially with younger children—and have room to move. It is a weaker buy if you expect a deep conventional console library or would rather avoid a recurring subscription. The key is to judge the hardware and the Play Pass as a combined cost, while checking what you can play without the pass.
What you get with Nex Playground
Nex Playground connects to a TV over HDMI; Nex says an HDMI cable is included. The Starter Pack comes with five games: Fruit Ninja, Starri, Party Fowl, Whack-a-Mole Deluxe, and Go Keeper. Nex says these remain playable without Play Pass, so the console is not unusable if you choose not to subscribe. See Nex’s product page for current product details.

Play Pass opens the rest of the catalog. Nex currently describes it as including 60-plus active games, new content, and no ads or in-app purchases; it also says it does not sell individual games. Treat the catalog count as a changing company claim, not a guarantee that the same number or titles will always be available. The official FAQ confirms that Play Pass is optional for using the console.

These are Nex’s listed prices, not a guarantee of the price or bundle available from every retailer; promotions can change. Nex’s US Play Pass page listed $49 for three months or $89 for twelve months. Check the live price and what is included before you buy.

| Choice | Listed US price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Nex Playground hardware | $299 regular price; $239 sale price appeared on one product page, as of 7 October 2026 | Console and five Starter Pack games |
| Play Pass, three months | $49, as of 7 October 2026 | Access to the Play Pass catalog for the stated term |
| Play Pass, twelve months | $89, as of 7 October 2026 | Access to the Play Pass catalog for the stated term |
For a first-year comparison, add the hardware price to the pass you expect to use. At the listed regular hardware price, that would be $348 with three months of Play Pass or $388 with twelve months; using the $239 sale price shown on one page, it would be $288 or $328, respectively. These are arithmetic examples based on Nex’s listed US prices on 7 October 2026, before tax and subject to price changes. If you skip the pass, the five Starter Pack games remain available.
Check the subscription terms before checkout
Nex’s terms, last updated in June 2026, say recurring subscriptions renew at the then-current regular price until cancelled. At checkout, verify whether you selected a subscription or a one-time purchase, along with the renewal price, date, and cancellation route. The terms of service explain the recurring-billing terms.

Nex says one Play Pass can be used on up to two Nex Playground consoles in the same household through the same account. It also says the first Play Pass purchase made directly through Nex can be refunded within 14 days of activation under the stated conditions. That policy should not be assumed to apply to later purchases or purchases through other retailers; check the official FAQ for the applicable terms.
Purchase channel can matter for setup timing. Nex says Play Pass codes bought through Amazon may take up to 48 hours to arrive. For a console that is already unboxed, Nex says buying through the on-screen QR flow provides instant access. If the console is a same-day gift, check the delivery method rather than assuming a code will arrive immediately. See Nex’s FAQ for these details.

Make sure your room works for motion play
Nex recommends about 6 ft × 6 ft of play space. Since the console connects to a television and is designed for movement, check the actual open floor area between the TV and nearby furniture before buying. It is not a handheld substitute for a room-based game system. The play-space recommendation and HDMI details are on Nex’s product page.
Who is most likely to enjoy it?
The strongest case is a household that will regularly play together, likes movement-based group games, and expects short sessions rather than long solo campaigns. A TechRadar review dated 17 December 2025 described it as a fine entry-level option for preschoolers and people interested in light fitness. That reviewer also found many games short-session experiences and said the visuals were not cutting-edge; this is one dated review, not a guarantee about every game currently in the catalog. It is a less convincing choice if only one or two of the included games appeal, if you want deep progression or a traditional controller-focused library, or if you do not want to manage another subscription. The Play Pass catalog may broaden the appeal, but its value depends on the specific games your household will actually play.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat to check before buying
- Included games: Would your household use Fruit Ninja, Starri, Party Fowl, Whack-a-Mole Deluxe, and Go Keeper even without a pass?
- Catalog fit: Look at the current Play Pass selection and decide whether its active games suit the people who will play. Nex’s 60-plus figure is a current catalog claim and may change.
- Total cost: Compare the live hardware price plus the pass duration you expect to use, rather than comparing the console price alone.
- Space and setup: Confirm you can provide roughly 6 ft × 6 ft of open play area and connect the console to a TV over HDMI.
- Billing: Determine whether checkout sets up recurring renewal or a one-time purchase, and note the renewal date and cancellation route.
- Code timing: If buying a pass separately, account for Nex’s notice that Amazon codes may take up to 48 hours; the QR flow on an already-unboxed console is described as instant.
How future content affects the decision
Hasbro announced an expanded collaboration with Nex to adapt family board games into active-play experiences, with the announced collection included in Play Pass. That signals a licensed-content strategy, but it does not establish a specific future release date. See Hasbro’s announcement.
