What happened to McAfee Safe Connect?
McAfee says Safe Connect would no longer be accessible after August 15, 2026. The cutoff has passed, so Safe Connect should be treated as discontinued rather than as a currently available VPN. See McAfee’s Safe Connect end-of-life FAQ for the notice.

What replaced McAfee Safe Connect?
McAfee identifies McAfee Secure VPN as the successor. It is not the same app, and its current product-page claims do not establish what Safe Connect offered or how it performed. McAfee currently markets Secure VPN within its consumer protection plans in the United States. McAfee’s current U.S. VPN page lists Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and ChromeOS.
What McAfee says Secure VPN includes
- McAfee says Secure VPN uses AES 256-bit encryption and can activate automatically on unprotected networks; it also describes an option to keep the VPN on. These are vendor statements, not independent test results.
- The company lists almost 50 country locations. This is a current vendor claim, not an independently verified location count.
- McAfee says it does not log or track online activity and says its VPN technology is independently reviewed and audited. The scope and findings of an audit are not established here, so that statement should not be read as a broader, independently verified privacy guarantee.
When should you use a VPN on public Wi-Fi?
McAfee recommends using a VPN on untrusted public Wi-Fi, including networks at airports, cafés, and hotels. A VPN encrypts traffic between your device and the VPN service, but it does not make every online activity anonymous or protect against every threat. McAfee’s recommendation and product descriptions are on its official VPN page.

What should you check before subscribing to Secure VPN?
McAfee’s subscription terms say annual subscriptions renew automatically, renewal prices may change, and introductory pricing can differ from renewal pricing. The company says a full refund may be requested within 30 days of an initial purchase or 60 days of a renewal charge, subject to exceptions that include monthly subscriptions. Because offers and terms can change, check the live offer and applicable terms before buying; do not assume an introductory price will recur at renewal. See McAfee’s refund policy.

There is no sufficiently clear, product-version-specific and dated evidence here to support claims about Safe Connect’s speed, streaming compatibility, leak protection, or historical privacy performance. Those results should not be inferred from McAfee’s statements about Secure VPN or from undated claims about Safe Connect. For a VPN decision, seek recent independent testing that identifies the exact service, app version, test method, and date.
