Yes—if you want to revisit the same unusual Zelda adventure with rebuilt visuals, rearranged music and more convenient controls. The Switch version is a reimagining of the 1993 Game Boy game, not a substantially expanded story. Its main new mode, Chamber Dungeons, is an optional remix of dungeon rooms rather than a second campaign.
What makes the Switch version worth returning to?
The central appeal is seeing Koholint Island reimagined. The adventure still revolves around exploring the island, finding items, solving dungeons and collecting instruments connected to the Wind Fish. TIME’s 2019 review described the remake as more than a rough transfer, highlighting its new graphics and sound. Reviewer Matthew Gault characterized the Switch music as orchestral compared with the original Game Boy’s limited sound; that is a contemporary reviewer’s assessment, not an objective measure of audio quality.

If you remember the original mainly for its setting, puzzles and progression, the Switch release offers a fresh way to experience those familiar strengths. If what you value most is the original Game Boy presentation, the remake’s rebuilt look and rearranged music may be less of a draw.
How do the two versions compare?
| What matters | Original Game Boy version | Switch version |

| Presentation | Game Boy-era visuals and sound, as described by TIME in 2019. | Rebuilt visuals and rearranged soundtrack, highlighted by Nintendo and TIME’s 2019 review. |

What is new, and how much does it add?
Quality-of-life changes
Nintendo lists several practical changes: you can equip more items at once, review conversations and navigate the map differently. These adjustments make the remake feel more convenient to play without changing the basic shape of the adventure.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Chamber Dungeons
In Chamber Dungeons, you arrange rooms from dungeons on grids built around particular objectives. Nintendo says Chamber Stones can be earned through the main adventure’s dungeons and mini-games. Zelda-character amiibo can unlock Chambers exclusive to amiibo, so amiibo is an optional extra for this mode—not a requirement for the main adventure.
The mode gives you an extra way to remix rooms, but it is not a large new story campaign. TIME’s reviewer described it as a remix of content players had already completed and noted that it was optional. Consider it a bonus if you enjoy rearranging dungeon layouts, rather than the main reason to buy or replay the game.

What should you know about performance?
In TIME’s September 30, 2019 review, Matthew Gault reported frequent overworld slowdown and stutter, including in Goponga Swamp, in both handheld and docked play. That is a dated report of the reviewer’s experience at the time, not evidence that every Switch setup behaves the same way today.
Nintendo’s current product listing confirms Switch 2 compatibility and a free update with improved visuals and HDR support. The listing does not provide a current frame-rate measurement or say that the behavior reported in TIME’s 2019 review has been fixed. Performance across current setups is therefore not established by those sources.

Who is most likely to enjoy the remake?
- Play it if you want to revisit Koholint Island with updated presentation and the Switch version’s convenience features.
- It is a stronger fit if you enjoy optional puzzle activities and want to experiment with rearranging dungeon rooms after playing through them.
- Keep expectations modest if you are looking for a substantially different story or a major new campaign; the additions Nintendo lists center on presentation, convenience, mini-games and Chamber Dungeons.
- The original may suit you better if preserving the Game Boy-era presentation matters more to you than seeing the adventure rebuilt.
Should you play it after the original?
For a return to the same adventure in a refreshed form, yes. The Switch version’s case rests on its presentation and convenience changes, with Chamber Dungeons as an optional extra—not on a new main story. Nintendo’s product listing gives a September 20, 2019 release date for the Switch game and confirms Switch 2 compatibility with a free visuals-and-HDR update. It does not provide a current price, so the evidence here cannot establish whether it is worth buying at a particular price.
