Google Antigravity’s risk depends on the permissions and rules active in your installation, what files and tools the agent can reach, and how you feel about the service’s handling of interaction data. Use it with private material only when you have checked those controls and are comfortable with the applicable terms; do not treat a permission preset or a well-secured Google Account as a guarantee that sensitive data cannot be exposed.
What determines whether Antigravity is safe for your files?
Antigravity is an agent-enabled development environment. Its permissions can determine whether an agent can read or change local files, run commands, use tools, or interact with a browser. A narrow workspace and restrictive rules reduce what the agent can reach; broader permissions increase exposure if an agent takes an unwanted action.

Google’s Additional Terms of Service put responsibility on users to authorize access to data, applications, and systems, decide whether the product is fit for their purpose, and supervise agent activity. That makes the settings in your actual installation—not just the product name or a preset label—central to the decision.
Google’s permission documentation covers macOS, Linux, and Windows, but the systems differ. The current permissions documentation says the updated permission system is available on macOS and Linux; Windows uses the previous system. Preset names and behavior may change, so verify the settings and platform-specific controls in the version you are running.

How do the permission options differ by platform?

There is a documentation nuance on sandbox defaults: the permissions page describes Default as sandbox-enabled, while the separate settings documentation includes IDE-specific terminal sandbox text saying sandboxing is disabled by default and later describes a strict mode that enables it. The documentation therefore does not support one universal default across every surface. Confirm the setting shown by your installed product rather than inferring it from a general preset description.
Why the effective rules matter more than the preset name
The permission system described by Google uses Deny, Ask, and Allow lists: Deny blocks an action, Ask pauses for approval, and Allow proceeds without prompting. When rules conflict, the documented order is Deny, then Ask, then Allow. The rules can apply to file reads and writes, terminal commands, MCP tools, URL reading, and browser actions.

read_file(*)matches all files on the system, according to the permissions documentation. A directory rule grants recursive access to files beneath that directory.- A write grant also grants read access to the same target. Do not treat a write permission as write-only.
- Web and MCP actions default to Ask in the documented system, but explicit rules can change what requires approval.
- Review both the preset and the effective rules, including rules for non-workspace files, browser actions, and connected tools. An approval prompt is useful only if you can assess the action before approving it.
For private work, keep the project workspace limited to files the agent actually needs. Do not place password stores, private keys, unrelated personal documents, or confidential client material inside an accessible workspace unless that access is approved and necessary.
What data may be sent to or stored by Google?
Google’s Antigravity terms say that when Antigravity is running, user data, interaction data, related metadata, and feedback are recorded and stored. The terms say interactions may be used to evaluate, develop, and improve Google and Alphabet products and machine-learning technologies, and that Google employees and contractors may access, view, review, and use them. They also state: “You will have the option to delete your Interactions.” The terms describe requesting deletion by emailing [email protected].

The reviewed terms do not specify a retention schedule or enumerate every field collected. Public materials reviewed also do not provide a complete per-feature inventory of what is transmitted. The settings documentation identifies an “Enable Telemetry” control for interaction collection. In a March 18, 2026 reply, the Google AI Developers Forum says disabling telemetry stops collection of interaction data and diagnostic information used to improve the service. Treat that as the stated effect of this control, not as proof that every other kind of service data handling stops or that the terms no longer apply.
Does signing in let Antigravity access Gmail or Drive?
The public materials reviewed do not establish the complete Google Account scopes involved in signing in, or whether Antigravity can access particular Google services such as Gmail or Drive. Signing into a Google Account should not, by itself, be taken as evidence either that the agent can read those services or that it cannot. Account authentication is distinct from permissions granted to local files, browser sessions, MCP servers, and other tools; check the access prompts and connected-tool settings that appear in your installation.

Could an agent expose files through prompt injection?
Prompt injection is a risk to consider when an agent reads untrusted content, such as a repository file or web page that contains hostile instructions. TechRadar has reported concerns about Antigravity security, including possible credential or code exposure through agent actions. That reporting is a reason to use restrictive permissions and review actions, not evidence that every user, version, or configuration is affected.

How to reduce risk before using Antigravity with private work
- Confirm your platform and version. Check the current permissions and settings in your installation; Windows uses a different documented permission system from macOS and Linux.
- Choose the narrowest workable access. Prefer workspace-limited access and review prompts where available. Avoid full-filesystem or unrestricted command access for work involving sensitive material.
- Inspect rules, not just presets. Look for broad file patterns such as
read_file(*), recursive directory access, write grants, and permissions for terminal, browser, web, and MCP actions. - Keep secrets out of reach. Remove credentials and unrelated confidential files from the workspace and avoid approving access to them unless it is necessary and authorized.
- Decide whether the data handling is acceptable. Review the terms and the Enable Telemetry setting; disabling telemetry has the stated effect described above but is not a complete data-flow guarantee.
- For workplace data, follow organizational policy. Do not assume that an individual setting overrides a company’s confidentiality, security, or approved-tools requirements.
What Google Account security can—and cannot—do
Google recommends using Security Checkup, maintaining recovery phone and email options, reviewing apps linked to the account, and enabling 2-Step Verification. Google describes passkeys as an account-protection option and recommends Google Prompts over text codes when a passkey is not used. Its 2-Step Verification guidance explains available verification methods.
A hardware security key can strengthen sign-in: Google says FIDO1 or FIDO2 keys can be used as a second step, while a hardware key used to create a passkey must support FIDO2. Keep another recovery method available in case the key is lost, as described in Google’s security-key instructions. These account protections reduce sign-in and account-takeover risk; they do not restrict local file access or prevent an agent from sending data it is permitted to read.
