What Dorion is—and what “lightweight” means here
Dorion describes itself as an alternative Discord client. According to its project page, it runs the web version of Discord and modifies and extends it with custom implementations of desktop-oriented features. The project repository says it is aimed at lower-spec or storage-sensitive computers, and the developer emphasizes storage use and startup speed.

The project page advertises installation files as approximately 11 times smaller. That is a developer-published file-size comparison; the page does not provide a comparison method or test conditions. It does not establish that Dorion uses less memory or processor time, starts faster on a particular computer, or improves call quality. No independent comparative performance measurement is established by the cited project materials.

These additions may appeal if you want to customize Discord or use desktop-oriented controls. They also mean Dorion is not simply the standard Discord client in a smaller installer; it changes and extends the web client.
Will Dorion work on your operating system?
Compatibility depends on the operating system, build, and release. The repository’s README includes a platform table and qualifications around WebRTC support. In the documented configuration, it marks voice unsupported on Linux and says WebRTC support depends on WebKitGTK and build configuration. The README also describes basic Linux use as qualified and mentions freezing reports, especially while GIFs are playing.

Discord’s rules and the unofficial-client trade-off
Dorion’s own materials say it modifies and extends Discord’s web client. Discord’s Terms of Service prohibit unauthorized software designed to modify its services. Its Platform Manipulation Policy Explainer, on a policy page dated March 15, 2024 and accessed October 7, 2026, states: “Don’t modify the Discord client for any reason — including automating account actions or altering the appearance or layout of Discord.”

Dorion is not presented here as endorsed by Discord. Anyone considering it should read Discord’s current terms and policy and decide whether using a modified client fits their tolerance for policy and account-related risk. The published rules do not establish what action Discord would take in an individual case.

Use the project’s official repository to find its releases and portable builds. The README also lists community package repositories, but says the project does not maintain them. Treat those packages as third-party maintained rather than official Dorion releases, and check their provenance and update status before installing.

Who should consider Dorion?
Dorion may suit someone who values themes, plugins, push-to-talk, or a smaller installer and is comfortable using an unofficial client. It is a less straightforward fit if dependable Linux voice support is essential, if you need independently measured performance gains, or if Discord’s client-modification rules make the trade-off unacceptable. For a decision based on performance rather than installer size, look for measurements on your own operating system and hardware; the project’s published comparison does not answer that question.
