It can be worth buying if portability matters more to you than precise controls or the strongest performance. The Nintendo Switch edition includes the After Dark and Snowfall expansions, but it is not established as including the franchise’s later add-ons. A 2018 review also reported awkward placement and slowdowns in larger cities, so treat the Switch version as a portable way to play—not the best-supported choice for players who prioritize control precision, performance, or the broadest DLC selection.
What the Switch edition includes
Paradox announced the Nintendo Switch edition on September 13, 2018. The publisher said it includes After Dark and Snowfall, along with an interface designed for Switch, additional tutorials, HD Rumble, and Pro Controller support. Its core simulation covers zoning and districts, transport, public services, utilities, policies, and city finances. Paradox’s launch announcement is the source for these edition details.

After Dark
After Dark adds a day-and-night cycle and leisure and tourism specializations. Its inclusion means the Switch package has more than the base city-building systems, but it does not establish access to every later expansion.

Snowfall adds winter maps and management demands such as heating and snow clearance; its official description also covers trams and expanded public transit. Paradox’s Snowfall page describes the expansion, but its current platform listing does not establish Switch availability for separate purchase.

How the Switch version compares with other platforms
| Factor | What Switch offers | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Portability | Play the city-building simulation on a handheld system. | Choose it if taking a city with you is a priority. |
| Included content | After Dark and Snowfall are included, according to Paradox’s 2018 launch announcement. | Do not assume this means later add-ons are included. |
| Controls | A Switch-oriented interface, controller support, and HD Rumble were announced. | Nintendo Life’s 2018 review found precise placement awkward, particularly for roads and underground pipes. |
| Performance in larger cities | The available source material does not establish a current Switch performance benchmark. | Nintendo Life reported slowdowns as cities grew in its 2018 review; that is a historical review finding, not a current measurement. |
| DLC selection | The two expansions confirmed in the launch package. | Listings for other platforms do not prove that later add-ons are available or compatible on Switch. |
Controls and performance: what the review evidence says
Nintendo Life’s 2018 review praised the effort to adapt the menus for controller navigation, but found exact placement—especially roads and underground pipes—awkward. It also criticized the tutorial support and reported that performance worsened as cities grew, with frame rates falling into the low 20s in some larger-city situations. The reviewer rated the game 5/10 and preferred playing it elsewhere. These observations describe one contemporary review, not a fresh test or a universal result. The available sources do not establish whether later updates changed those outcomes. Read Nintendo Life’s 2018 review.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the Switch edition have the later DLC?
Do not buy the Switch edition expecting the full add-on library available across the wider franchise. Paradox’s Sunset Harbor and Snowfall pages list platforms but omit Switch. The publisher’s general buy page lists Nintendo Switch alongside many add-ons, but that broad listing is not proof that each add-on is available or compatible with the Switch edition. The official launch announcement confirms After Dark and Snowfall in the Switch package; the available listings do not settle a complete, current Switch DLC catalog.
