Yes. BrokenLore: MIKI-CHAN is part of the same connected universe as the other BrokenLore games, but the developer says each story is designed to stand on its own. You do not need to play the earlier entries first. The release order is a useful guide, not a complete story chronology: FOLLOW, for example, is described as a prequel to UNFOLLOW.

How MIKI-CHAN connects to the BrokenLore universe

MIKI-CHAN is not a separate horror game with only a shared label. Its publisher describes it as revealing another piece of the mystery surrounding BrokenLore and Elysium, while the series’ developer has explained that the games share an interconnected narrative universe.

Serafini Productions CEO and founder Sebastiano Serafini described the approach to Xbox Wire on September 10, 2026: “I liked the idea of telling a fragmented story: each game can stand on its own and explore its own characters and themes, but players who are curious enough to look deeper can gradually connect those fragments.” That means a connection may reward players who know the other games, but the studio does not present prior entries as prerequisites.

Miki-chan also appears as a character in DON’T LIE. In MIKI-CHAN, she becomes the central virtual assistant in Kazuaki’s story.

What MIKI-CHAN is about

On Steam, MIKI-CHAN is described as a first-person psychological horror game. Kazuaki, a Japanese student preparing for the Teidai entrance exam and hoping to win over the girl he loves, finds a USB drive containing a study-support program. The program introduces him to Miki-chan, a virtual assistant who grows jealous and possessive.

The Epic Games Store listing says Miki-chan takes control of a simulation and traps Kazuaki in unstable school environments. He uses a tool called the Rewriter to change parts of those environments, defend himself, and solve puzzles. The game’s premise makes Miki-chan’s appearance in DON’T LIE a direct character connection, while the broader BrokenLore and Elysium mystery supplies a larger universe connection.

BrokenLore release order

This is the practical order by release date for the entries covered here. It is not a confirmed sequence of plot chronology.

Release order Game Release date or status Story-order note
1 BrokenLore: LOW February 20, 2025, Pacific time; the developer announcement gave February 21 in Japan time. The developer called it the first chapter.
2 BrokenLore: DON’T WATCH Announced for March 20, 2025. No broader chronological placement is established here.
3 BrokenLore: UNFOLLOW Released January 16, 2026, according to the publisher announcement. FOLLOW is later by release date but is described as its prequel.
4 BrokenLore: FOLLOW Steam lists May 31, 2026. Steam explicitly calls it a prequel to UNFOLLOW.
5 BrokenLore: DON’T LIE Announced as out on September 10, 2026. Miki-chan appears in this game.
6 BrokenLore: MIKI-CHAN Upcoming. Steam currently lists the release date as “To be announced”; announcement coverage reported a 2027 window. No source establishes that it must follow a specific game.

Sources: Serafini Productions’ Steam announcements for LOW and DON’T WATCH; Shochiku’s announcement via PR Times for UNFOLLOW; the Steam listing for FOLLOW; Wired Productions’ release announcement for DON’T LIE; and the Steam listing for MIKI-CHAN and Gematsu’s October 1, 2026 announcement report.

Which order should you play?

If you are new to the series

Release order is the simplest way to see the games as they arrived and notice connections as they were introduced: LOW, DON’T WATCH, UNFOLLOW, FOLLOW, then DON’T LIE. Add MIKI-CHAN when it releases. This order is a recommendation for discovery, not a developer-confirmed chronological sequence.

If you want story chronology

The available official material does not provide a complete chronology for every entry. The one explicit correction to release order is that FOLLOW is a prequel to UNFOLLOW. It would therefore be misleading to treat release dates as a definitive plot order or to claim a complete timeline for the franchise.

If you only want to play MIKI-CHAN

You can start with MIKI-CHAN without first completing the other games: Serafini Productions says each title can stand alone. Recognizing Miki-chan from DON’T LIE may make that character connection more noticeable, but the developer’s description does not say that playing DON’T LIE is required.

When does BrokenLore: MIKI-CHAN come out?

MIKI-CHAN is upcoming. Steam currently says “To be announced,” so an exact launch date is not confirmed there. Gematsu reported a 2027 release window after the October 1, 2026 announcement, which named PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Treat 2027 as a reported window rather than a confirmed date; the digital storefront listings do not establish a physical edition.
