At launch, Aniimo does not appear to use conventional creature banners, meaning paid random draws for characters or creatures. Creatures are mainly obtained through gameplay. But that is not the same as saying the game has no randomized purchases. The PlayStation Store listing carries an in-game purchase disclosure that explicitly includes random items, and the listing does not say which items those are. The accurate answer is “not a banner gacha at launch, with a random-items disclosure that needs context.”
What “gacha” means in this question
Most readers use “gacha” to mean a system where you spend premium currency on a random pull for a character, creature, or weapon, often with a pity counter that guarantees a rare result after enough attempts. That is the narrow meaning this article uses. A broader meaning, used by some storefronts and regulators, covers any paid purchase whose contents are randomized. Aniimo fits the narrow definition poorly at launch and the broader one unclear, so the two need to be kept apart.
How creatures are obtained at launch
PC Gamer’s launch-day explainer, published September 16, 2026, reports that there were no conventional character or creature banners at launch, and that Aniimo, eggs, and related content came through play rather than banner draws. The table below sets out each acquisition route the available sources describe, and what each source does and does not establish.
| Route | How it works, as described | Paid random draw? | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Catching in the world with Aniipods | Creatures are caught in the game world. Which creatures appear varies with environmental conditions such as weather and time of day. | Not stated as a paid draw | PlayStation game listing |
| Eggs | Described by launch coverage as a gameplay acquisition route. Eggs vary in rarity. | Not stated; the coverage does not describe eggs as paid random draws | PC Gamer |
| Launch-event catching items, limited eggs, login and milestone rewards | Advertised by the official website as rewards for playing. | Not stated as a paid draw | Aniimo official website |
| Token collection | Reported as the system that replaced the beta Rift Exploration event at launch. The specific token rewards are not detailed in the cited coverage. | Not stated | PC Gamer |
The catching route is the core of the game. The official listing’s own description reads: “Seize every chance to capture and collect Aniimo to your heart’s desire!” That is platform copy from the listing, attributed to the publisher PAWPRINT INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT PTE. LTD., not a statement from a named spokesperson.

What changed from the beta: Rift Exploration
The clearest gacha-like mechanic reported for Aniimo was not in the launch build. PC Gamer describes an earlier Rift Exploration beta event in which players used premium currency for a chance to obtain a Legendary Aniimo, with a pity-like guarantee that ensured a result after enough attempts. This is the feature that makes the gacha question worth asking, because it matches the narrow definition above.
What the reporting says happened
PC Gamer reports that launch replaced Rift Exploration with token collection. Under the narrow definition, the removal of a premium-currency chance draw with a pity guarantee is the relevant fact for the current build.

What is not established
The cited coverage does not say why the change was made. The developer’s official post, as PC Gamer describes it, does not give a reason, and it would be inaccurate to present player backlash as the cause. Readers should also not assume the change is permanent. Aniimo is a live-service game, and both the mechanics and the monetization can be adjusted after launch.

What the “Includes Random Items” label does and does not tell you
The PS5 listing for Aniimo is marked free and labels its in-game purchases “In-Game Purchases (Includes Random Items).” That label is the reason the answer cannot be a flat no. It establishes that at least some purchasable content is randomized. It does not establish that the random content is creature acquisition, and the listing does not identify which items are random or what the odds are.

Until the game or its store page states otherwise, the random-items disclosure should be read as a fact about purchases in general, not as evidence of creature banners. If a purchase screen displays odds or a list of possible contents, that would be the place to check what is random.
