No. An LED TV is not automatically a Smart TV: “LED” describes display technology, while “Smart TV” refers to internet-connected software and app features. A television can be both, so check the exact model rather than relying on its LED label.
What does “LED TV” mean?
In consumer product listings, “LED TV” commonly means an LED-backlit LCD television. The term describes the screen’s display and backlighting category; it does not tell you whether the television connects to the internet or runs streaming apps.

LED also does not, by itself, establish overall picture quality. For that, compare the specifications of the particular models you are considering.
What is a Smart TV?
A Smart TV has internet-connected software and app functionality. Samsung describes the idea as “TV + internet + apps = Smart TV” and identifies internet connectivity, an operating system and an app service as key elements. Samsung’s Smart TV guide also notes that an internet connection and a subscription to a content service may be required.

Can a TV be both LED and Smart?
Yes. LED and Smart describe different characteristics, so one television can have both. LG’s historical LS5700 specification sheet calls the product an “LED LCD SMART TV” and lists LED picture features alongside online entertainment features. That example shows how the labels can overlap; it is not a current-model recommendation. LG LS5700 specification sheet

How to check whether a particular LED TV is smart
Find the full model number on the television, its box, or its settings menu, then consult the manufacturer’s specifications and support pages. Confirm each of these points:
- Smart platform: Does the model include a smart operating system or platform and built-in apps?
- Network connection: Does it support Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or both?
- Required apps: Are the streaming services you use supported on that model and in your region? App availability can vary by model, platform, region and time.
- Service requirements: Does an app require a paid subscription or a separate account? Internet access alone does not necessarily provide access to paid content.
Do not treat “LED” in a product name as evidence that any of these smart features are present.

What if an LED TV has no built-in smart features?
An external HDMI streaming device may add access to apps on a television that lacks a built-in smart platform. First check that the TV has an available HDMI port and confirm compatibility between the specific television and device. You will still need to check whether the device supports your required apps in your region; some services may also require internet access, an account or a subscription.
What should you compare when choosing between LED TVs?
For streaming, compare built-in platform and app support, network options, compatibility with the services you want, and whether you are willing to use a separate HDMI device. Compare picture quality separately using each model’s specifications. The word “LED” alone answers neither the smart-feature question nor the broader question of which screen will look better to you.
