What does IPLeak.net test?
IPLeak.net presents several separate checks rather than one overall privacy score. Each concerns a different way information may be exposed:

- Apparent IP address: shows the address visible to the test.
- WebRTC: checks for IP information exposed through WebRTC requests.
- DNS: reports detected DNS servers, which can help identify whether DNS requests appear to be leaving a VPN tunnel.
- Torrent address: tests the address associated with torrent-related traffic.
- Geolocation: lets you test browser geolocation behavior.
- Browser and system information: displays details a website may receive from browser requests.
These checks cover distinct network and browser disclosures; a result in one area does not describe the others.

WebRTC exposure
WebRTC supports real-time browser communications. IPLeak.net explains that WebRTC uses STUN (Session Traversal Utilities for NAT), which can discover a public IP address. The site advises that if you are connected to a VPN and its WebRTC results show your ISP IP, your system is leaking WebRTC requests. Treat this as the site’s interpretation of that result, not a universal diagnostic rule that independently proves what every app or website can see.

DNS leakage
DNS requests translate domain names into network addresses. IPLeak.net defines a DNS leak in the VPN context as “an unencrypted DNS query sent by your system OUTSIDE the established VPN tunnel.” If detected DNS servers include one associated with your ISP while your VPN is active, the site identifies that as a DNS leak. The result concerns DNS routing; it is separate from the IP address reported by the WebRTC test.
How is IPLeak.net different from a browser privacy checker?
“Browser privacy checker” can mean different things: some tools focus on browser settings, tracking protection, fingerprint exposure, permissions, or other areas. Those are not interchangeable categories, and IPLeak.net does not establish a shared feature set for all such checkers. Its stated tests are more specific:

Use IPLeak.net to investigate the paths it tests, and consult a suitable browser-focused tool or settings review for other questions. A favorable IPLeak result is evidence only about the checks performed, not a general privacy score.
How to use IPLeak.net to check a VPN connection
- Connect to the specific VPN configuration you want to evaluate.
- Open IPLeak.net and review the apparent IP, WebRTC, DNS, and torrent-address results separately.
- Compare the detected IP and DNS information with the VPN path you expect. Pay particular attention to whether WebRTC shows your ISP IP or DNS results include an ISP server.
- If a result suggests exposure, review the VPN and browser configuration relevant to that path, then run the check again. IPLeak.net provides browser-related WebRTC suggestions on its page; the right setting or remedy depends on your browser and setup.
Results are observations of the tested session. DNS server counts or addresses shown during a live test are not stable statistics, and a passing result does not prove that every application or browsing activity is protected.

What IPLeak.net cannot tell you by itself
The site documents selected network and browser disclosures; it does not claim to test every tracker, fingerprinting method, browser permission, or privacy setting. Its browser/system information fields describe details a site may learn from browser requests, while its IP, WebRTC, DNS, and torrent checks examine particular address or routing paths. Neither category should be mistaken for a full browser privacy audit.
