What’s actually slowing this PC down?

If you actively rely on Apple continuity—especially an Apple Watch or Handoff—staying with iPhone is usually the lower-friction choice. Android may be better if its phone choices or services matter more to you than those conveniences. The decision turns on the Apple workflows you actually use, what the transfer tools can move, and whether you are ready to handle the exceptions.
What matters most when choosing between iPhone and Android?
There is no universal winner. Compare the value of your current Apple setup with the specific Android phone and services you are considering; switching platforms does not automatically make every Apple device unusable, but it can change how some features work.

| Decision factor | Staying with iPhone makes more sense when… | Android becomes more attractive when… |
|---|---|---|
| Apple continuity | You use Handoff or depend on close integration with other Apple devices. | You are comfortable changing workflows or mainly use cross-platform services. |
| Wearables and accessories | Your Apple Watch or its Apple-specific features are central to daily use. | You are willing to check replacement options or accept reduced accessory functionality. |
| Migration effort | You want the simplest path within your existing setup. | The supported transfer covers your needs and you are willing to handle exceptions. |
| Messaging | Your contacts and group conversations depend on iMessage features. | Your circle uses cross-platform messaging and current RCS support meets your needs. |
| Phone number | Your carrier and target iPhone support the SIM or eSIM process you need. | You have confirmed how your carrier will activate service on the Android phone. |
| Phone choice | Your current iPhone meets your needs and continuity is valuable to you. | Android phone choice or services are important enough to justify changing workflows. |
Which Apple features will you lose or change?
Handoff and continuity
Apple documents Handoff as a way to continue supported tasks among Apple devices, including iPhone and Apple Watch. If you use this kind of continuity, list the exact tasks you rely on—rather than treating “the Apple ecosystem” as one all-or-nothing feature. An Android phone will not provide the same Apple-to-Apple Handoff workflow. Apple’s Handoff guidance describes the supported ecosystem behavior.
Apple Watch
If your Apple Watch is central to your daily routine, treat it as a major switching constraint: Apple documents its integration with iPhone, not an equivalent Android-phone setup. Before changing phones, check the specific watch functions you use and whether you are prepared to change your wearable arrangement.

- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
AirPods and other accessories
AirPods can pair with non-Apple devices, so basic audio use with Android is possible. Pairing does not establish that every Apple-specific feature is retained. Check the functions you depend on before assuming the experience will match iPhone. Apple’s AirPods pairing instructions cover non-Apple devices.
What transfers from iPhone to Android?
Google provides a switching process for moving data from iPhone to Android, but the screens and availability can vary by target phone. Google says its upgraded setup experience is rolling out first on select Pixel and Samsung devices, with wider availability planned; check instructions for your exact model rather than assuming every Android phone offers the same transfer flow. Google’s Android switching guide explains the process and recommends turning off iMessage when switching.

Expect a migration, not a clone of your iPhone. The phone’s supported setup process can move common information, but it does not reproduce every app, purchase, setting, or ecosystem behavior. Before beginning, check which data types your target phone supports and plan to handle anything outside that list separately.

Google advises turning off iMessage when switching so future messages route correctly. Do this as part of the move, and check that people can reach you afterward. RCS messaging between Android and iPhone is subject to a rollout and can depend on the device, carrier, and current availability; do not assume every contact or conversation will have the same capabilities. Google’s RCS guidance describes the evolving support.

Your phone number is a separate compatibility check. eSIM transfer depends on a supported carrier and compatible devices; in other cases, the carrier may need to activate the eSIM. Confirm the process with your carrier for the precise phone and plan before switching. Apple’s eSIM transfer guidance explains its supported transfer options.
Can you move from Android back to iPhone later?
Yes. Apple’s Move to iOS tool supports selected data types, including contacts, message history and SMS, camera photos and videos, albums, files and folders, some accessibility and display settings, bookmarks, mail accounts, WhatsApp data, Voice Memos, call history, and calendars. App matching is conditional: some free apps may be suggested when they are available in both stores and compatible with the transfer feature. Apple’s Move to iOS instructions list supported content and setup requirements.

Music, books, and PDFs must be moved manually. Apple says content must fit on the iPhone; if its setup is already complete, you may need to erase it to start the transfer. A direct USB-C connection is an optional way to speed transfer when the devices support it, not a required purchase.

- List the Apple workflows you use. Note whether you rely on Handoff, Apple Watch integration, iMessage features, or particular accessory functions. Separate daily essentials from features you rarely use.
- Choose a specific Android phone to evaluate. Check its transfer instructions, compatibility, and the services you care about. Android setup and cross-device options are not identical across brands and models.
- Confirm messaging and cellular service. Turn off iMessage as Google recommends, and ask your carrier how it will activate your number on the target phone, especially if you use eSIM.
- Make an exception list before transferring. Identify purchases, apps, files, or settings that will need a separate solution rather than assuming the migration will carry everything over.
- Compare the complete trade-off. If Android’s options or services outweigh the Apple workflows you would change, switching may be worthwhile. If continuity is more valuable, staying with iPhone is likely the easier fit.
Android has cross-device features of its own
Android is not limited to a single phone in isolation. Google documents cross-device services for nearby Android devices signed in to the same Google Account, including moving supported video calls between devices. The exact features depend on supported devices and apps, so this should be evaluated as a specific Android capability—not as a guarantee that every brand offers identical integration. Google’s cross-device services help describes the feature set.
