iPhone Suhoor Alarm: Choose a Shortcut or Prayer-Time App

A daily iPhone automation can run on schedule, but it needs a prayer-time source to follow changing Fajr times. Here’s how to choose and verify a Suhoor alarm setup.

You can automate an iPhone alarm for Suhoor, but a daily Shortcut trigger does not calculate Fajr or Suhoor time. To have the alarm move with local prayer times, pair automation with a reliable prayer-time source—or use an app whose listing explicitly says its Fajr alarm follows changing times and supports a Suhoor offset.

Which approach should you choose?

Approach What it can do What you need to verify
Shortcuts automation Run a personal automation at a daily time and, where supported, run it without asking. The daily trigger is not a prayer-time calculator. You still need a trustworthy source for the next local Fajr or Suhoor time and a way for the automation to set the alarm.
Prayer-time app Athan Utility’s App Store listing describes a Fajr alarm that follows shifting prayer times and an adjustable Suhoor offset. The listing says the Fajr Alarm requires iOS 26. Confirm current compatibility, local calculation settings, and that its alarm behavior suits you.

Apple documents Shortcuts triggers and automation behavior, while the app’s feature description comes from its App Store listing. Neither source establishes that a particular setup will deliver an alarm reliably on every iPhone.

What a daily iPhone automation can—and cannot—do

In Shortcuts, a Time of Day personal automation can run daily, weekly, or monthly. Apple also documents that some personal automations, including Time of Day, can be configured to run without asking. Availability of that setting does not mean every action inside an automation is necessarily automatic; check the settings for the actions you use. See Apple’s Shortcuts automation guide and its event-trigger guide.

A fixed daily trigger—for example, an evening time when your iPhone is normally available—only tells the automation when to run. It does not tell Shortcuts when tomorrow’s Fajr begins. Apple’s cited guides describe triggers, not a built-in prayer-time calculation. Sunrise and sunset triggers use the current location in Weather; they are not a substitute for the Fajr time chosen by your local mosque or religious authority.

Set up the Shortcuts route carefully

  1. Create a daily trigger. In Shortcuts, create a personal automation with the Time of Day trigger and choose Daily. Set it for an evening time when your phone is typically available. Exact screens and labels can vary by iOS release; Apple documents the trigger and its repetition options in its event-trigger guide.
  2. Choose the prayer-time source. The automation needs access to a trustworthy next-day local Fajr or Suhoor time. A time-of-day trigger alone does not supply one. Use only a source and calculation method that match the practice followed by your mosque or trusted local authority.
  3. Set the alarm for your chosen lead time. Configure the action or app to set an alarm before the relevant cutoff by an offset that works for you. Confirm the offset with your local authority if you are unsure which time to use.
  4. Review automatic execution. Configure the automation to run without asking if that option is available for your trigger, and inspect any individual action settings that affect automatic execution.
  5. Check the result on your iPhone. Verify the location, calculation method, date, daylight-saving behavior, alarm time, sound, and volume. Confirm that the alarm appears at the intended time; the cited documentation does not test or guarantee alarm delivery on your device.

When a prayer-time app may be simpler

If you do not want to build a Shortcut around a separate prayer-time source, a dedicated app may reduce setup. Athan Utility’s App Store listing describes prayer-time calculation methods and a Fajr alarm that follows changing prayer times, with an offset for Suhoor. The listing states that this Fajr Alarm feature requires iOS 26. Treat that as the publisher’s stated feature, not an independently verified result, and check the current listing and your device’s compatibility before relying on it.

Why the local time still matters

Prayer-time calculations can depend on location and calculation method. Before relying on any automated alarm, make sure the app or source uses the method accepted by your community, check the date and local time after a location or daylight-saving change, and compare the displayed Fajr time with a trusted local source. Choose an alarm offset that gives you the time you need before the relevant cutoff rather than assuming one universal Suhoor time.
