No—not all iPhone pentalobe screws are interchangeable. Several models use the same general five-point drive and a P2 driver, but screw length can vary. Check the repair guide for your exact iPhone model before buying replacement screws or opening the phone.
What “the same” means for an iPhone pentalobe screw
“Pentalobe” describes the screw’s five-point drive shape. “P2” is the driver designation used in the cited iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 repair guides. Those labels identify the drive and tool; by themselves, they do not prove that screws from different models have the same dimensions or will fit safely.

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 examples share a stated 6.8 mm length and P2 driver specification. The other guide PDFs show why that match cannot be generalized to every iPhone. The available examples do not establish universal cross-model compatibility.

How to choose a driver or replacement screw
- Identify your exact iPhone model. Do not rely only on the family name or appearance; the iPhone 14 guide, for example, identifies its device as model A2882.
- Check that model’s repair guide. Confirm the specified driver and screw length for the exterior screws at the charging port.
- Use a bit that fits snugly. A shared “pentalobe” label is not enough to choose a driver; follow the tool designation in the model-specific guide.
- Buy screws explicitly listed for your exact model. The cited guides document model-specific repair procedures, not a universal replacement-screw standard.
Why P1 and P2 advice can conflict
A 2015 9to5Mac article recommended a P1 driver for iPhones and described P2 as too large based on the author’s experience. Later iFixit guides for iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 specify P2. These recommendations come from different sources and eras, so do not treat the older advice as universal: follow the repair instructions for your exact model. 9to5Mac’s 2015 article
Exterior pentalobe screws are not all the phone’s screws
The iFixit iPhone 17 Pro teardown identifies Pentalobe P2 screws at the bottom, but also lists Phillips PH00, Tri-Point Y000, Torx Plus 4IP, and standoff screw types elsewhere in the phone. Before opening the phone
Power off the iPhone before beginning, as the cited iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 guides instruct. Opening the display can compromise water-resistant seals: the iPhone 13 Pro Max guide advises having replacement seals ready, or avoiding liquid exposure after reassembly if a new seal is not installed.
