Set up your iPhone’s emergency tools before you need them: learn how Emergency SOS works, add current Medical ID details and trusted contacts, and check which options your model and location support. These features can help you contact responders or share information, but they cannot guarantee a connection or dispatch help in every situation.
At a glance: what each feature does
| Feature | How it starts | Connection and availability | What to prepare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Emergency SOS | Manual button sequence | Uses emergency calling; the available method can depend on location | Know your iPhone’s button sequence and review its SOS settings |
| Medical ID | Shown from the lock screen in an emergency | Can be viewed without unlocking when configured; automatic sharing during an emergency call is available in the United States and Canada | Add only relevant information you want available, and keep it current |
| Emergency Contacts | Can be notified after an emergency call or SOS | Location sharing depends on availability | Choose trusted people likely to respond |
| Emergency SOS via satellite | On-screen prompts after an emergency call fails | iPhone 14 or later, in supported countries or regions, with no cellular or Wi-Fi coverage; requires a clear view of the sky | Check regional availability, set up Medical ID and contacts, and try the demo |
| Crash Detection | Automatic after a detected severe car crash | Documented for iPhone 14 or later; satellite calling may be attempted in a specific no-connection situation where available | Review the call setting and know how to respond to its alert |
| Emergency text or Siri | Text where supported, or ask Siri for help | Texting availability varies by location; voice requests may not always succeed | Check local options and know the local emergency number |
1. Set up and learn Emergency SOS
Emergency SOS lets you call emergency services using the iPhone’s physical buttons. On most iPhones, press and hold the side button and either volume button until the Emergency SOS countdown ends. Apple also documents an optional five-press shortcut: go to Settings > Emergency SOS and turn on Call with 5 Presses. The default sequence differs in India, so check the instructions shown on your iPhone rather than assuming one button sequence applies everywhere. Apple’s Emergency SOS guide describes the available controls.

After an emergency call, your iPhone can alert the Emergency Contacts in Medical ID unless you cancel. It may share your location and, after SOS mode begins, send location updates for a period. Learn the controls in a safe moment so you can act deliberately in an emergency.

2. Add a Medical ID responders can view
Medical ID can display important health information from the lock screen without unlocking the iPhone. In the Health app, tap your profile picture, choose Medical ID, and add relevant details such as allergies or medical conditions. If you want the information accessible to responders, turn on Show When Locked and Emergency Call. Apple says automatic Medical ID sharing during an emergency call is available in the United States and Canada; that should not be taken to mean the same sharing flow applies everywhere. See Apple’s Medical ID setup guide.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Include details that could matter in urgent care, and review them when your health information changes. Anyone able to access Medical ID from the lock screen may see what you enter, so share only information you are comfortable making available in an emergency.
3. Choose and maintain Emergency Contacts
Add Emergency Contacts in the Medical ID settings in Health. Choose people you trust and who are reasonably likely to respond. After an emergency call, the iPhone can notify them and share your current location if available; once SOS mode starts, it may send location updates for a period. The precise notification and location behavior depends on the situation and availability. Apple’s SOS guide and personal safety guide explain these emergency-call flows.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
An alert to a contact is not the same as a call to emergency services: it does not itself dispatch help. Review the contact list if a number changes or someone is no longer an appropriate emergency contact.
4. Prepare for Emergency SOS via satellite
Emergency SOS via satellite is for iPhone 14 or later in supported countries or regions when cellular and Wi-Fi coverage are unavailable. Try to call emergency services first. If the call fails, follow the on-screen satellite prompts. A clear view of the sky is important; terrain and other obstructions can interfere. Availability depends on geography and can change, so check Apple’s current satellite availability information before relying on the feature for a trip. Apple’s satellite emergency guidance describes how to connect.

Before going somewhere remote, set up Medical ID and Emergency Contacts, then try the demo at Settings > Emergency SOS. The demo lets you practice the flow; it does not call responders. Satellite messaging is a fallback with specific device, regional, and environmental limits, not a promise that an iPhone can connect from anywhere.
5. Review Crash Detection
Apple documents Crash Detection for iPhone 14 or later. After detecting a severe car crash, the iPhone displays an alert and starts an emergency call after 20 seconds unless you cancel it. Review the control at Settings > Emergency SOS > Call After Severe Crash. Apple also says that if a person is unresponsive and the iPhone has no cellular or Wi-Fi connection, it may attempt Emergency SOS via satellite where available. That is a conditional capability, not a guarantee of contact. Read Apple’s Crash Detection guide for details.

6. Know the local options for emergency text and Siri
Apple identifies Siri as a hands-free way to request emergency help, which can be useful when handling the phone is difficult. A voice request is not guaranteed to succeed, so use the local emergency number when you can. Texting emergency services is not available everywhere; check local availability instead of assuming that texting 911 works in your area. Apple’s Safety Features page and Emergency SOS guide cover these options.
Also check emergency and public safety alerts
iPhone can notify you when emergency, government, and public safety alerts are issued. Review the alert controls available on your device and consult local guidance for the alerts used where you live; settings and alert availability are not identical in every region. Apple provides an overview on its Safety Features page.
