The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the more practical choice if you need a foldable now, want a lighter device, or plan to multitask across several windows. The iPhone Duo is the better fit for an iOS user drawn to Apple’s ecosystem, Apple Pencil support, and its announced IP68 rating—but it was not due to go on sale until October 23, 2026, and independent reviews were not yet available as of October 7.

That makes this a conditional comparison, not a definitive performance verdict: Samsung has been reviewed, while the iPhone Duo’s real-world hinge, display, camera, battery life, and durability still need independent testing.

Which phone should you choose?

Choose the Galaxy Z Fold 8 if you need a foldable now

The Fold 8 was already listed as on sale, while Apple’s stated availability date for Duo was October 23, 2026. Its listed 256GB starting price is also $100 lower in the U.S. comparison, though the gap and local prices differ by market. It is 53 g lighter and 0.7 mm thinner unfolded on the listed specifications, which may matter if you carry your phone all day. Comfort is personal, so the figures are a reason to handle it, not a guarantee of how it will feel.

Its strongest functional case is multitasking: Tom’s Guide reports support for up to three apps on screen and up to five floating windows, alongside DeX mode. That makes it the clearer choice if you expect to work across apps or use a desktop-style interface. The review also measured 12 hours and 19 minutes in its own 5G web-surfing battery test; that result applies to the Fold 8 under that publication’s test conditions and is not a direct comparison with Duo.

Wait for the iPhone Duo if iOS matters more than buying immediately

If you rely on iOS, Apple services, or continuity with other Apple devices, Duo is the natural candidate to shortlist. Apple announced iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence, and the comparison lists Apple Pencil USB-C support and an IP68 rating. The listed 2TB storage tier may also suit buyers who need more capacity than the Fold 8’s listed maximum of 1TB.

These are announced features and specifications, not proof of real-world performance. As of October 7, direct independent comparisons of Duo’s hinge, display, crease, sturdiness, and sustained performance were still unavailable. Treat its durability rating as a manufacturer specification until reviews and longer-term use provide evidence beyond the rating.

For a close call, compare the workflows—not just the spec sheet

Both phones are in the same large-screen class: each has a listed 7.6-inch inner display, while their cover displays differ by just 0.1 inch. Camera megapixels do not establish image quality. The Fold 8 has 50MP wide and ultrawide cameras, but its review criticizes the lack of a telephoto camera; Duo’s listed dual 48MP rear cameras still need independent evaluation.

Battery capacity is not runtime, either. The listed capacities are close, and the different charging figures do not establish which phone lasts longer or charges faster in comparable real-world conditions. Wait for a suitably comparable Duo battery test before drawing that conclusion.

What the numbers do—and do not—tell you

Price and availability depend on market and timing

The listed U.S. base prices put the Fold 8 at $1,899 and the Duo at $1,999 for 256GB. In the listed U.K. and Australian prices, the gaps are larger. These are published starting prices, not a promise of current inventory or final checkout cost; check local availability and the exact storage tier before buying. The Duo preorder and availability schedule is Apple’s announced schedule, not evidence that every market or retailer will have stock on those dates.

Ratings are not the same as a durability verdict

The comparison lists IP68 for Duo and IP48 for Fold 8. Tom’s Guide’s Fold 8 review explains that its IP48 rating means water resistance but not dust resistance. An IP rating describes specified resistance conditions; it does not establish hinge longevity, screen wear, or how either phone will fare after years of use. Duo’s rating has not yet been independently validated in published reviews as of the date of this comparison.

Accessory support needs a precise check

The comparison lists Apple Pencil USB-C support for Duo, while the Fold 8 review cites DeX and lists no S Pen. If stylus use or an external-display workflow is decisive, confirm compatibility for the specific accessory and setup you intend to use before purchase; the feature labels alone do not establish every workflow.

How to make the buying decision

  1. Decide whether you can wait. If you need a phone before October 23, 2026, Duo’s announced availability schedule rules it out for immediate purchase; check Fold 8 stock where you live.
  2. Choose your software environment. Favor Duo if iOS and Apple services are essential to your daily routine; favor Fold 8 if its reported multiwindow approach and DeX better fit your work.
  3. Compare like-for-like prices. Match storage capacity and local currency, then check current retailer pricing and availability rather than assuming the listed starting prices remain unchanged.
  4. Handle both devices if possible. After Duo becomes available, try typing on each cover display and view both unfolded screens from an angle. Personal comfort and screen preferences cannot be settled by dimensions alone.
  5. Revisit unresolved performance questions. Before choosing Duo for camera quality, battery life, crease visibility, hinge sturdiness, or sustained performance, look for independent reviews that test those areas. Do not treat Samsung’s test results as a direct benchmark for Duo.

What independent testing still needs to establish

Samsung’s phone has review coverage, including hands-on observations and a publication-specific battery test. The iPhone Duo had not yet reached its stated retail availability date in the comparison window, so its specifications cannot answer how it performs over time.

9to5Mac’s September 10, 2026 comparison likewise identifies hinge, display, crease, sturdiness, and performance as areas where a direct comparison had to wait for launch. Independent reviews and sustained-use reports are the evidence to look for before treating those questions as settled.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
