There is no proven overall camera winner between the iPhone 18 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Ultra: the available evidence does not include a controlled, direct comparison of these exact phones. Xiaomi’s documented long-telephoto hardware is a standout reason to consider it; Apple emphasizes variable aperture, manual controls and computational imaging. The better fit depends on what you shoot and how you work with your footage.
Which phones are being compared?
“iPhone vs Xiaomi” covers many models. This comparison focuses on two current flagships: Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro, announced September 9, 2026, and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, described by Leica Camera AG in an announcement dated February 28, 2026. Their specifications are not a substitute for a side-by-side image-quality test.

What each camera system offers
| Area | iPhone 18 Pro | Xiaomi 17 Ultra |
|---|---|---|
| Main camera | Apple lists a 48 MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, from ƒ/1.48 to ƒ/4. Apple Newsroom | Leica describes a one-inch main sensor. Leica Camera AG |
| Telephoto and zoom | The cited Apple announcement does not establish a directly comparable zoom range. | Leica describes a 200 MP telephoto lens spanning 75–100 mm with mechanical optical zoom, and a telephoto range up to 400 mm equivalent. Leica Camera AG |
| Manual and creator controls | Apple lists manual aperture, shutter-speed and white-balance controls, a histogram, and Photographic Styles texture and grain controls. Apple Newsroom | Leica describes the partnership as involving lens design, colour tuning and focal lengths; these are manufacturer descriptions, not independent image-quality results. Leica Camera AG |
| Video specifications | Apple lists post-capture Cinematic effects for video recorded at up to 60 fps and 4K Dolby Vision HDR time-lapse. Apple Newsroom | Leica lists 4K video up to 120 fps with Dolby Vision or ACES Log on the main and telephoto cameras. Leica Camera AG |
These are manufacturer- and partner-described capabilities, not matched test results. A higher megapixel count, larger stated sensor, or longer listed focal length does not by itself show which phone produces the better-looking photograph.

Which one makes more sense for your photography?
Choose around zoom needs
If you often photograph distant subjects, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra has the more clearly documented long-telephoto hardware in the available specifications. Its stated 75–100 mm mechanical optical zoom and telephoto range up to 400 mm equivalent make it a strong candidate to investigate for framing flexibility. That does not prove superior detail or image quality at every zoom level; those require direct samples.

Choose around low light and everyday stills
Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro’s ƒ/1.48 wide aperture is intended for low light, while ƒ/4 allows greater depth of field. Aperture is one part of a photo result: exposure, processing, lens choice, subject movement and the photographer’s preferred look also matter. The cited Xiaomi announcement identifies its one-inch main sensor, but neither source establishes which phone handles dim scenes, moving people, skin tones or mixed lighting better.
For an everyday point-and-shoot choice, compare photos from the same scenes rather than relying on specification sheets. Look at whether faces and highlights are rendered the way you like, whether moving subjects stay sharp, and whether results remain consistent when switching cameras.
Choose around hands-on control and editing
The iPhone 18 Pro’s listed manual aperture, shutter speed and white balance controls, plus histogram, may appeal if you want to shape exposure and colour while shooting. Apple Developer’s high-resolution capture presentation describes a Photonic Engine that combines information into a 24 MP image, multi-frame processing, Bayer RAW and ProRAW options, and a capture-mode constraint for 24 MP and 48 MP photos. These details describe Apple’s capture workflow; they are not a performance comparison with Xiaomi. Apple Developer: Implement high resolution photo capture

Which is better for video?
The listed modes point to different capabilities, not a verdict. Apple lists Cinematic effects applied after capture for video recorded at up to 60 fps and 4K Dolby Vision HDR time-lapse. Leica lists 4K up to 120 fps with Dolby Vision or ACES Log on the Xiaomi’s main and telephoto cameras. The available specifications do not settle which phone has better autofocus, stabilization, exposure transitions or lens switching in real use.
For a video workflow, check sample clips for the specific jobs you do: moving subjects, walking shots, rapid camera changes and the frame rates and formats your editor accepts. Limited independent context is available: TechRadar’s 2026 flagship roundup reports cases where Xiaomi 17 Ultra video is less adept than iPhone 17 Pro for lens switching, frame rates and codecs. That comparison is not an iPhone 18 Pro test, so it cannot decide this matchup. TechRadar’s 2026 flagship roundup

Before choosing, verify the exact model, local availability, software version and price in your country. If possible, compare unedited sample photos and videos from both phones under the same conditions; separate stills, low light, zoom and video rather than treating one impressive sample as a universal result.

No controlled direct test of the iPhone 18 Pro against Xiaomi 17 Ultra across still photos, low light, portraits, zoom and video is established by the available sources. TechRadar’s hands-on review of the standard Xiaomi 17 concerns a different model and cannot substantiate Xiaomi 17 Ultra performance. TechRadar’s Xiaomi 17 review As a result, claims that either phone takes better photos overall, or wins low light or portraits, would go beyond the evidence.
