Choose the iPhone 18 Pro Max if you want to stay with iOS or already rely on Apple devices and services. Choose the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra if Android customization, a built-in S Pen, Samsung’s Privacy Display or more telephoto options matter more. Neither is the automatic winner: the better buy depends on your current ecosystem, the way you use a camera and the price of the storage tier in your market.
This is a comparison of two large-screen flagships released at different times: Samsung announced the Galaxy S26 series in February 2026, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max was reported as launching in September 2026. Prices and availability can vary by country and retailer. The current-generation iPhone specifications below are reported by TechRadar; Apple’s official specifications available for this comparison were for the previous iPhone generation.

Which phone should you choose?
- Choose iPhone 18 Pro Max if you prefer iOS, use Apple products or services, or want the iPhone’s camera and storage configuration. The benefit of staying in Apple’s ecosystem is a practical preference, not a measured performance advantage.
- Choose Galaxy S26 Ultra if you want Android, more scope to customize your phone, split-screen multitasking, a built-in stylus or Samsung’s off-angle privacy feature.
- Compare local prices before deciding. The reported US starting prices are the same, but storage options, trade-ins, carrier offers, taxes and local warranty terms can change the total cost.
Both phones have a reported 6.9-inch, 120Hz OLED display. The clearest reasons to favor one are therefore less about screen size and more about platform, camera priorities and Samsung’s distinctive tools.
How do their screens and everyday features differ?
TechRadar’s comparison reports a 6.9-inch, 1320 × 2868 OLED screen and 3,000-nit peak brightness for iPhone 18 Pro Max. It lists the Galaxy S26 Ultra at 6.9 inches, 3120 × 1440, with a 1–120Hz OLED display. On those reported figures, Samsung has the higher resolution, while the iPhone has the higher stated peak brightness. These are secondary-source comparison figures, not a substitute for checking official specifications for the exact regional model.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Samsung’s built-in Privacy Display is a distinct feature: Samsung says it limits what people viewing the phone from an angle can see. It may be useful when reading sensitive content in public, but it is not a replacement for a screen lock or other privacy safeguards.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra also includes a built-in S Pen. That gives it a practical advantage for handwriting, marking up content or other stylus tasks; it is a feature choice, not a general measure of phone quality. TechRadar lists Android 16 with One UI 8.5 and seven years of upgrades for the S26 Ultra. Check Samsung’s current regional support terms before treating that figure as a commitment applicable to your exact model.

Which camera system better suits your photos and video?
Compare the lenses and the kinds of shots you take rather than choosing by megapixel count alone. TechRadar reports four rear cameras on the Galaxy S26 Ultra: a 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide, 50MP 5× telephoto and 10MP 3× telephoto. That gives Samsung two reported telephoto focal lengths, a useful distinction if you often photograph distant subjects or want more framing options without moving.

The same comparison describes a three-camera rear system and variable aperture for iPhone 18 Pro Max. Those are different hardware approaches; the available evidence does not establish that one produces better photos or video overall. Consider whether you most value zoom reach, portraits, video workflow or a particular image-rendering style, and consult camera samples or reviews that test the kind of shooting you actually do.

Which lasts longer between charges?
In its 2026 comparison, TechRadar estimates about 17 hours of continuous use for iPhone 18 Pro Max and about 16 hours for Galaxy S26 Ultra. Treat that as one publisher’s comparison estimate, not a promise of your daily battery life: usage, settings, signal conditions and configuration can change endurance, and the cited figures do not specify enough detail to predict every user’s result.
TechRadar reports MagSafe support for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The official Apple charging information available for this comparison describes the prior iPhone 17 Pro generation, so it should not be used to state a charging wattage for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Check the specification for your regional iPhone before buying a charger.

What do performance figures tell you?
Samsung’s February 2026 launch release describes improvements of up to 19% in CPU performance, 39% in NPU performance and 24% in GPU performance for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The release’s comparison baseline is not specified in the figures cited here, so these manufacturer claims are not independent benchmark results and cannot establish how the phone performs against the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
TechRadar reports Future Labs Geekbench 6.5 results of 3,766 single-core and 11,537 multi-core for Galaxy S26 Ultra, compared with 3,871 and 9,829 respectively for iPhone 17 Pro Max. Those are results for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, not the iPhone 18 Pro Max. They should not be used to claim that the current iPhone is slower or faster than the S26 Ultra.
Quick Recap
What should you check before buying?
- Confirm the exact model, storage tier and price available in your country; availability and offers can change.

- For iPhone 18 Pro Max camera, display, battery and charging details, verify the current Apple regional specification page; the figures cited here are secondary-source reporting.
