You can add the Cinematic depth-of-field effect to an existing 60 fps video on iPhone 18 Pro in Photos, but Apple documents this after-recording option only for clips recorded in Video mode with the Main camera. Open the clip, tap Edit, then Cinematic and Depth Control; adjust the slider and tap Done. Apple’s iPhone User Guide also describes a quicker way to apply the effect.
Apply Cinematic to an existing 60 fps video
First check that the clip was recorded in the iPhone’s standard Video mode using the Main camera. Apple documents applying Cinematic after capture for that combination; it does not establish the same compatibility for footage from another camera or a third-party app. A 60 fps frame rate does not change the documented editing steps.

- Open Photos and select the eligible clip.
- Tap Edit.
- Tap Cinematic, then tap Depth Control.
- Move the slider to adjust the depth-of-field effect, then tap Done.
For the faster application path, open the video, tap Cinematic, then tap Cinematic On. Apple documents both paths in its instructions for editing Cinematic videos.
What the effect changes
Cinematic creates a depth-of-field look: the subject stays sharp while the foreground and background appear blurred. The after-recording control Apple describes for a standard Video-mode clip is the depth-of-field slider. It should not be confused with editing focus transitions as if the clip had originally been recorded in Cinematic mode. Apple describes Cinematic’s focus behavior and editing in its video recording guide.

Apply the effect later or record in Cinematic mode?
| Workflow | When to use it | What Apple documents | Key condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apply after recording | You already have a standard video clip. | Apply and adjust the Cinematic depth-of-field effect in Photos. | Video mode and Main camera are specified for this workflow. |
| Record in Cinematic mode | You are preparing to shoot and want Cinematic behavior during capture. | Up to 4K Dolby Vision at 60 fps on iPhone 18 Pro; the settings guide also lists 1080 HD at 60 fps. | Choose Cinematic mode and a supported recording setting before capture. |
These workflows are related but not interchangeable: recording in Cinematic mode captures Cinematic behavior from the start, while applying the effect later to an eligible standard clip uses the Photos editing control.
Record new footage in Cinematic mode at 60 fps
For a new recording, Apple lists Cinematic recording up to 4K Dolby Vision at 60 fps for iPhone 18 Pro. Its recording-settings guide also lists 1080 HD at 60 fps. To select a setting, go to Settings > Camera > Record Cinematic, then choose an available resolution and frame rate. The available combinations depend on the supported options shown on your iPhone; do not assume every camera supports every format. See Apple’s video recording settings guide and iPhone 18 Pro technical specifications.
