The iPhone 17 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S26 FE target different budgets and priorities. Apple announced the iPhone at a US starting price of $1,199; Samsung’s US page showed $799.99 for the 256GB Galaxy S26 FE on October 7, 2026. That is an indicative $399.01 difference, not a synchronized comparison of current checkout prices: the figures use different price bases, and promotions, storage choices, carrier offers and taxes can change what you pay.

How the specs compare

The iPhone 17 Pro Max has a larger display, more listed storage capacity and a different telephoto approach. Samsung publishes battery capacity and charging rates; Apple’s cited specifications do not state battery capacity in mAh.

What is the price difference?

Apple announced a $1,199 US starting price for the iPhone 17 Pro Max on September 9, 2025. Samsung’s US product page displayed $799.99 for the 256GB Galaxy S26 FE on October 7, 2026. Subtracting those figures gives $399.01, but this is not a same-day, same-storage checkout comparison: Apple’s number is a historical launch starting price, while Samsung’s is an observed price for one storage configuration. Current prices may differ.

Where the differences matter most

Screen and size

The iPhone’s display is 0.2 inches larger diagonally and has a higher stated peak outdoor brightness. Samsung’s screen supports 60Hz or 120Hz, while Apple lists 120Hz ProMotion. The Galaxy is also slimmer and 40g lighter according to the listed dimensions and weights, which may matter if you prefer a less heavy phone.

Camera reach, not just megapixels

Both phones have three rear cameras, but megapixel counts alone do not establish which takes better photos. Apple lists three 48MP cameras and telephoto options described as 4x optical zoom at 100mm and 8x optical zoom at 200mm. Samsung lists a 3x optical telephoto camera alongside its wide and ultra-wide cameras. These specifications describe different camera systems and zoom options; they are not a substitute for a controlled head-to-head photo test.

Storage and battery information

Apple offers configurations up to 2TB, compared with Samsung’s listed maximum of 512GB. Samsung gives a typical battery capacity of 4,900mAh, estimated under IEC 61960 laboratory conditions, and a rated minimum of 4,755mAh. Apple’s cited specification page lists charging methods and wireless charging rates but not mAh capacity, so the published figures do not support a direct battery-capacity comparison or a conclusion about which lasts longer.

Regional fit and durability

In the US, the iPhone 17 Pro Max uses dual eSIM and has no physical SIM-card support. For the Galaxy S26 FE, check the model number and carrier bands for your market rather than assuming every regional version is identical. The cited Galaxy specification summary does not establish a protection rating comparable to Apple’s stated IP68 test details.

Which phone is better for you?

  • Consider the iPhone 17 Pro Max if you want Apple’s iOS ecosystem, a 2TB storage option, a larger screen, or the listed 4x/8x telephoto options—and are comfortable with its higher announced US starting price.
  • Consider the Galaxy S26 FE if you prefer Samsung’s Android ecosystem, want a lighter and slimmer device, or value having published battery capacity and charging rates. Confirm the storage and regional model you can actually buy.
  • Compare your real checkout totals if price is decisive. The $399.01 arithmetic gap uses Apple’s historical launch starting price and Samsung’s observed 256GB US listing price, not matched live offers.

Availability also varies by market. Samsung says Galaxy S26 FE availability starts September 4 in select markets, with storage options subject to carrier and regional variation. Apple announced iPhone 17 Pro Max availability beginning September 19, 2025. Check local listings for current availability and colors.

Apple says the iPhone box contains the phone, a 1m USB-C charge cable and documentation, but no power adapter or EarPods. The cited Samsung materials do not establish charger contents for every region, so check the local listing rather than assuming the boxes match.
