Apple’s launch announcement positioned the phone around its A18 Pro chip, camera features, and Apple Intelligence. Those are Apple’s product claims, not independent comparative findings.

Apple’s technical specifications give the display as 6.9 inches diagonally; measured as a standard rectangle, it is 6.86 inches. The actual viewable area is smaller because of the rounded corners. Storage capacity is not the same as available space: usable storage is lower and varies with configuration and software.
#1 Best Overall
- The large 6.9-inch display combines ProMotion 120Hz technology with advanced color calibration, giving movies, games, and productivity apps a spacious, crisp, and fluid visual experience that’s ideal for multitasking or immersive media consumption.
What the display and size mean
The 6.9-inch screen is the model’s clearest distinction from the smaller iPhone 16 Pro. It is useful for viewing more content at once, but the phone is also 163 mm tall, 77.6 mm wide, and weighs 227 g. Those measurements matter when judging one-handed reach, pocket fit, or comfort over long periods; a screen diagonal alone does not describe how a phone feels to hold.
Camera and video features
The rear system combines a 48MP main Fusion camera, a 48MP Ultra Wide camera, and a 12MP Telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. Apple also lists up to 25x digital zoom and a 10x optical zoom range. The launch announcement highlights 4K video recording at 120 frames per second in Dolby Vision. These are hardware and capability descriptions, not a guarantee of image quality in every scene.

Camera Control is another defining feature of the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Apple introduced it as a dedicated control for interacting with camera functions; the exact controls and software behavior may depend on the iOS version.
Battery, charging, and durability claims
- Battery: Apple rates it for up to 33 hours of video playback, up to 29 hours of streamed video playback, and up to 105 hours of audio playback. These are manufacturer figures, and Apple says actual results vary.
- MagSafe: Apple lists wireless charging up to 25W when used with a 30W-or-higher adapter.
- Wired charging: Apple lists fast charging with a 20W-or-higher adapter and cable. The USB-C port supports charging; USB 3 speeds up to 10Gb/s require a USB 3 cable.
- Water and dust resistance: The IP68 rating is based on controlled laboratory testing under IEC 60529: a maximum depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes. Apple cautions that resistance is not permanent and may diminish with wear.
Software and availability considerations
Apple says Apple Intelligence availability depends on supported languages, device language settings, software, and region. Features and support can change, so consult Apple’s current Apple Intelligence information before assuming a particular feature is available on a device in your location.
